Helen Taylor Dee

Helen Taylor Dee, 80, of Palm Bay, Fla., died May 4 at home after a brief

illness.

She was the mother of Vivien Mendyk of Sandy Hook.

She was born in Parkman, Me. A long time resident of Bridgeport, she retired

from St Vincent's Medical Center after 27 years of service.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wolfgang Dee; two children, Monica Dee and

Manfred Dee; and grandson, Eric Padilla.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two sons, Eric Dee of

Bridgeport and Winston Dee of Melbourne, Fla; three other daughters, Maxine

Zimmerman, of Palm Bay, Fla., Jeannine Bogus of Bridgeport, and Leonita Denton

of Kissimmee, Fla.; 18 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am Friday, May 7 at Olivet

Congregational Church, 2102 Main Street in Bridgeport. The Rev Kimberly Murphy

will officiate. Interment will be in St Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Burial

will be private.

Veronica Loughlin

Veronica M. Loughlin, 82, wife of the late Timothy J. Loughlin of 42 Elizabeth

Circle, Newtown, died May 5 at her home.

Mrs Loughlin was born in New York City on December 1, 1916, a daughter of the

late John C. and Mary (Markey) Giesi. She has been a resident of Newtown the

past 44 years.

Mrs Loughlin was a communicant and active in parish affairs at St Rose of Lima

Church. She was a volunteer patient representative at Danbury Hospital, a

member of Newtown Women's Club, and a driver for Newtown Meals on Wheels.

Mrs Loughlin is survived by two daughters, Veronica Singel of Saranac Lake,

N.Y. and Deidre Macho of Brookfield; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, at 8:30 am from the Honan

Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and at 9 am in St Rose Church for a

Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm.

Beatrice Greenman

Beatrice Muriel Greenman, 86, a former resident of Newtown, died May 5 in

Monticello, Fla.

Mrs Greenman was born in Nichols, Conn. on January 13, 1913, the daughter of

Ervin and Reba Stickles. The family moved to Sugar Street in Newtown in the

1930s.

Mrs Greenman graduated from the Mount Ida School in 1933. During the 1950s,

she was personnel training manager for D.M. Reads in Bridgeport, and later for

Malleys Department store in New Haven. In 1990 she moved to Monticello, Fla.

with her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Elizabeth Greenman.

Besides her son, she is survived by another son, Harry Greenman, Jr, of

Manitou Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

William J. Durkin

William J. Durkin, 92, of Brewster, N.Y., died May 3 at the Putnam Hospital

Center in Carmel, N.Y. He was the husband of Alma (LaMere) Durkin.

He was the father of Edward J. Durkin of Newtown.

Mr Durkin was born November 30, 1906, to Michael J. and Catherine (Farrell)

Durkin. Had attended schools in Brewster.

Mr Durkin married Alma LaMere on June 10, 1933 at St Lawrence O'Toole Church

in Brewster where he had been a lifelong parishioner.

Mr Durkin was a foreman for the Carmel Lumber Company, in Carmel, N.Y. for

many years, retiring in 1975. Also, he had been a farmer as a young man,

working with his father on the Durkin farm in Brewster. Mr Durkin had been a

lifelong resident of Brewster and an avid baseball player in his day.

Besides his wife of 65 years and his son, he is survived by two other sons,

William J. Durkin, Jr, of Brewster, N.Y. and David P. Durkin of Rensselaer,

N.Y.; two daughters, Dorothy D. Eastwood of Brewster, N.Y. and Jeanette Hatley

of Tollhouse, Calif.; a brother, Thomas H. Durkin of Brewster, N.Y. and a

sister, Gertrude Durkin of Brewster, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, and eight

great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 6 at St Lawrence O'Toole

Church, Brewster. Internment followed at St Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery,

Brewster.

Arrangements were by Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster.

Anne Gallagher

Anne (Walter) Gallagher, 77, of Trumbull, died May 2 in St Joseph's Manor.

She was the mother of Raymond Gallagher and Pam Arsenault, both of Newtown.

Mrs Gallagher, wife of the late Hugh Gallagher, was born in McKeesport, Penn.,

and was a resident of Trumbull for most of her life. She was an RN and a

member of the US Navy Nurses Corp during World War II. She was a Eucharistic

minister at St Teresa Parish, a founding member of the Legion of Mary at St

Teresa, confraternity of Rosary Counsel of Catholic Women, a former Girl Scout

leader, and member of the Trumbull Woman's Club.

In addition to her son, she is survived by another son, Hugh Gallagher, Jr, of

Monroe; two other daughters, Patricia Eng of Monroe and Peggy Fry of Monroe;

14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held on May 5 in the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue,

Bridgeport, and in St Teresa's Church for the funeral Mass. Burial was in St

Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.

Memorial donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research,

15825 Grove Road, Suite 140, Rockville, MD 20850-4022.

Julius L. Sapak

Julius L. Sapak, 74, of 27 Academy Hill Road, Derby, died suddenly, May 1, at

the Griffin Hospital. He was the husband of Jennie (Sabo) Sapak.

Mr Sapak was born in Scranton, Penn. September 27, 1924. He resided in Derby

for the past 20 years. Mr Sapak was a retired mechanic of Sikorsky Aircraft

after 35 years, and had served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He

was a former member of the Newtown Fish and Game Club. In 1995, Mr Sapak

received the "Iron Eyes Cody Humanitarian Award."

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas J. Sapak of Monroe; a

daughter, Susan Hemmock of Derby; a brother, Gene Sapak of California; seven

grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was

predeceased by a daughter, Katherine Livia.

Arrangements were by the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street,

Derby. A Mass of Christian burial was held May 4 in St Mary's Church. Burial

was in Mount St Peter's Cemetery.

William A. Koment

William A. Koment, 89, of Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown, father of Sandra J.

Joudy of Brookfield, died May 3 at the Bethel Healthcare Center in Bethel.

Mr Koment was the husband of the late Mauguerite (Fink) Koment.

He was born in Bridgeport on March 3, 1910, a son of Alexander and Emily

Koment.

He attended Bridgeport schools and was a carpenter by trade. Mr Koment was a

carpenter foreman at the Bridgeport Hospital, retiring in 1970 after 27 years

of service. He was a former member of the Bridgeport Carpenter's Union.

In addition to his daughter, he is survived by a son, Dr Roger W. Koment of

Burbank, S.D.; and three grandchildren, Doreen Helstern, Leonard Joudy and

Scott Joudy.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 8, at 11 am, in the

Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, with Pastor Richard

J. DeMoss of the Colonial Hills Baptist Church of Danbury officiating.

Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Bridgeport.

Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home on Friday, May 7, from

6 to 8 pm.
