Another Successful Fundraiser Sewn Up By Junior Women's Club
The annual quilt show sponsored by the Newtown Junior Women's Club on
Saturday, drew 275 people to the Meeting House to view the 88 entries. Of
those displayed, 12 were antique quilts.
This is the fourth year this popular fund raiser has been held. And it is a
significant year for the organization, which is celebrating its 25th year.
Those who attended the event voted for Best of Show. Judith Reilly, creator of
the pictorial Autumn Observations quilt, won the award.
Refreshments were offered at The Harvest Cafe. There, visitors found tea,
coffee, mulled cider, freshly baked breads and scones, madeleines, fruit, cold
drinks, warm soup and rolls.
The Newtown Junior Women's Club is a non-profit organization of women who are
committed to serving their community through the promotion of civic, cultural,
educational, and social activities. Through fundraising, the group serves many
local interests.
Quilt Committee members were Roberta Walston, Susan Heithaus, Susan Rahmlow,
Maria Bowen, Therese Sweeney, Susan White, Elaine Rentz, and Dolores Bobowick.
Those who worked on the program for the event were Roberta Walston, Colleen
Honan, Peter Cekanauskas, and John Heithaus; the publicity, Sherri Zadrovitz
and Susan Goodridge; refreshments, Susan Heithaus and the general membership.
Next September, the organization will start looking for quilts to include in
next fall's display.
