Two Youths Arrested After Shoplifting Incident
Newtown police report they lodged criminal charges against two Southbury
teenagers following an incident on the afternoon of August 2 at the Super Stop
and Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street.
Police said supermarket employees allegedly saw Christian Meeske, 19, and
Dennis "Dwight" Williams, 17, conceal cartons of cigarettes while they were in
the store.
Williams was apprehended with the cigarettes while in the supermarket, but
Meeske fled on foot with two cartons of cigarettes, police said.
Police then spotted Meeske outside a business in the area. Police said that
while searching Meeske, they found any empty bag containing an apparent heroin
residue. A witness from Stop and Shop then identified Meeske as the person who
was involved in the store incident, according to police.
Police said a plastic bag containing two cartons of cigarettes was then found
inside a garbage can near Meeske. A zippered bag containing some marijuana was
found with the cigarettes, police said.
Police then charged Meeske and Williams each with sixth-degree larceny. Police
also charged Meeske with illegal possession of marijuana and illegal
possession of heroin residue.
After processing, police released both youths for August 12 appearances in
Danbury Superior Court.
