Albert W. Schmidt
Albert W. Schmidt, 76, of New Fairfield, former owner of the Albert W. Schmidt
Funeral Home, died September 14 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of
Ruth Fischer Schmidt.
Mr Schmidt was born in Danbury, July 6, 1922, a son of the late Albert O. and
Jennie I. Peterson Schmidt. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was a
graduate of Danbury High School. He attended Concordia College in Bronxville,
N.Y., before enlisting in the Navy. He served in the Navy and Marines during
WWII before being discharged in 1946. He then graduated from the American
Academy of Embalming and Mortuary Research in New York City.
Mr Schmidt owned and operated the Albert W. Schmidt Funeral Home from 1950 to
1975 in Danbury and later worked at Barden's in Danbury. He was a former
president of the Danbury Choral Society, and a former member of the Danbury
Exchange Club.
Mr Schmidt was very active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury. At the
church he was a former president of the school board, former Sunday school
superintendent and former organist for the Sunday school, a past president of
the Mr & Mrs Club and was a member of the Men's Club. He was also a member of
the choir, the men's chorus and was an usher. With Pastor B.W. Janssen he
started the Vacation Bible School.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Diane R. Wardenburg of
Brookfield, assistant director of the Lathrop School of Dance of Newtown, and
Deborah L. Hollrah of Danbury; two granddaughters, Kaitlin L. Hollrah and
Megan E. Hollrah, both of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Players, 26 West Street,
Danbury, Conn. 06810.
The funeral was held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on September 17. Burial
was in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

Edward C. Thornton
Edward Curtis Thornton, 62, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Danbury,
died September 7, at St Luke's Hospital, Kansas City.
Mr Thornton was born in Tunica, Mo., on November 15, 1935. He graduated from
Ball State University in Munci, Ind., and was a lifetime member of the Masonic
Lodge. He was purchasing manager for Anaconda-Ericsson Manufacturing for 32
years and retired from AGP in St Joseph, Mo., in December of 1996.
He is survived by a daughter, Amanda Thornton, of Danbury; a son, Bruce, of
Kansas City; two grandchildren, Lenora and Evan Thornton, both of Newtown; and
several brothers and sisters. He is also survived by Thomas Ireland and
Patricia Januzzi.
Services were held on September 11, in Kansas City, Mo., and burial was in
Denton, Md., on September 14.

Alice D. Morgan
Alice D. Morgan, 88, of Bethel, died on September 13 at the home of her
daughter, Janet M. Johnson of Newtown. She was the wife of the late Howard S.
Morgan.
Mrs Morgan was born in Danbury, February 23, 1910, a daughter of the late
Charles and Carrie Louise (Warner) Disbrow. She attended Danbury schools, and
graduated from Danbury High School, class of 1928.
A resident of Bethel since 1945, Mrs Morgan was employed as a bookkeeper for
various companies in the Danbury area, and most recently worked as a
bookkeeper in the Town of Bethel, Comptrollers Office, retiring in 1994 after
many years of service.
Mrs Morgan was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution,
and served as its National Defense chairman. She was a lifelong member of the
Central Christian Church of Danbury.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two sons, William D. Morgan of
Bethel, and David F. Morgan of Southbury; one brother, David W. Disbrow, and
one sister, Ruth D. Farwell, both of New Fairfield; six grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on September 16 at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215
Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, with the Rev Crawford H. Harmon of the Central
Christian Church of Danbury officiating. Burial was in Wolfpit Cemetery,
Bethel.

Rosalind Tornillo
Rosalind Abriola Tornillo, 94, of Bridgeport, died September 14, in St
Vincent's Medical Center.
Born in Bridgeport, she was a retired executive with the A.R. Abriola & Son
Funeral Home in Bridgeport, which was founded by her father and mother, the
late Antonio R. Abriola and Anna Tricarico Abriola.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel A. Tornillo of Bridgeport and Edward J.
Tornillo of Monroe; one sister, Camilla Dortenzio of Bridgeport; two
grandchildren, Patrice Sage of Monroe and Anne Tornillo of Newtown; two great
grandchildren; and one nephew. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward S.
Abriola.
A prayer service took place on September 15 in the funeral home with the Rev
Diane A. Jones, pastor of Word of God Ministries, officiating. Private funeral
and entombment will take place at the convenience of the family.

Clinton Stephens, Sr
Clinton R. Stephens, Sr, 75, husband of Charlotte (Frank) Stephens of 17 Cedar
Hill Road, Newtown, died September 16 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Mr Stephens was born in Mt Vernon, N.Y., April 4, 1923, son of the late
Randolph and Pearl (Sterling) Stephens.
A resident of Newtown since 1955, he was last employed at the Dalling
Construction Co in Bridgeport. He was a former assistant engineer and
assistant chief of the United Fire Co of Botsford. He was a former scoutmaster
for Troop 270 BSA. A disabled veteran of World War II, he served in the US
Marines. He was also a member of International Union of Operating Engineers
Local 478.
Mr Stephens was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church.
Besides his wife, Mr Stephens is survived by two sons, Victor R. Stephens of
Monroe, and Clinton R. Stephens, Jr, of Newtown; four sisters, Gloria Mix of
Monroe, Audrey Albright and Constance Beardsley, both of Shelton, and Lois
Tabor of Cantonment, Fla; two step-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Honan Funeral Home September 19 at noon.
Interment will be at the Monroe Center Cemetery. Friends may call September 18
from 6 to 9 pm.

Robert G. Kozar
Robert G. Kozar, 63, husband of Barbara (DuLac) Kozar of Bridge End Farm Road,
Sandy Hook, died September 15 in Danbury Hospital.
Mr Kozar was born in Norwalk on March 2, 1935, son of Elizabeth Kozar of
Meriden and the late George Kozar.
He was an industrial engineer with Nash Engineering of Monroe for more than 40
years.
Mr Kozar was educated in Norwalk schools and took several college courses in
engineering. During the Korean War, he served in the US Army Reserves. He was
also a member of the Order of Eagles.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert W.
Kozar of New Milford and Christopher G. Kozar of Bethel; one daughter, Lisa M.
Kozar of Danbury; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Rachelle, Victoria and
Hayley Kozar.
Funeral services will be September 19 at 10 am at the Honan Funeral Home, 58
Main Street, Newtown. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk. Friends
may call September 18 from 6 to 9 pm.

Osmond Y. Ladd, Jr
Osmond Y. Ladd, Jr, "Ossie," 77, of 28 Farview Avenue, Danbury, owner of
Ladd's Optical & Jewelry Store on White Street in Danbury, died September 14
at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margo Schroeder-May Ladd.
Dr Ladd was born in Danbury October 8, 1920, a son of the late Osmond Y. and
Dora Barnum Ladd. He was a Danbury resident all of his life and served in the
Navy as a corpsman during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a graduate
of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and upon returning to Danbury in
1949, worked with his father at the then Osmond Y. Ladd & Son Jewelry and
Optical Store, a family business since the early 1900s.
Dr Ladd continued working at the store after his father's death in 1965 until
the time of his own death. He was a member of Union Lodge No. 40 of Masons for
more than 50 years and was also a member of the Pyramid Shrine Temple and the
Stellar Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by one son, Jack D. Mackay of Danbury; and a daughter,
Charlotte Margo Mackay of Danbury; and several relatives in South Carolina.
A graveside service will be held at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, Section 3,
September 18 at 11 am. Calling hours were scheduled for September 17 at the
Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Danbury, from 7 to 9 pm with a Masonic
service to be held at 8 pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
