Paving a road is an expensive job, but it can be even more costly when

portions of the road have to be re-paved due to human error.

Such was the case in Newtown earlier this month when the town's Public Works

Department had Wendover Road paved, then, a few days later, removed three

trees from the side of the road, effectively tearing up parts of the

residential street.

According to Public Works Director Fred Hurley, two oak trees and an ash tree

were supposed to be moved by a local contractor on a Saturday with the pavers

scheduled to come in the following Monday. However, the tree man never came

and the pavers did.

"I went ballistic when I saw what had happened," Mr Hurley said.

The two torn up spots on Wendover Road will be repaved, Mr Hurley said.

A similar situation occurred a few weeks back when Toddy Hill Road was paved

by Tilcon, which completed its job just in time for the local gas company to

come in and cut up a small part of the road.
