Council Seeks Volunteers For Charter Revision Panel
The Legislative Council is seeking residents interested in serving on the
town's planned Charter Revision Commission, an agency which will make
recommendations on improving the structure of town government.
Members of the council's charter revision committee met October 18 and named
council member Melissa Pilchard head of the temporary panel that will shepherd
the creation of a Charter Revision Commission.
Committee members ask that people interested in developing structural changes
for the municipal government submit their resumes for consideration by the
council. Those resumes may be mailed to: The Newtown Legislative Council,
Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT, 06470. The resumes are due by
November 3. The full Legislative Council will select the membership of the
Charter Revision Commission.
The commission will develop a set of recommendations on charter improvements
for submission to the council. The commission can have between 5 and 15
members. No more than a bare majority of its membership may be from any single
political party. No more than one third of its membership can be town
officials.
Commission members are unsalaried. Their work is expected to take many months
to complete.
