OBITS John Dougherty
A Memorial service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Chruch, Friday, July
28, at 11 am, for John H. Dougherty, husband of the late Katherine Dobnak
Dougherty and father of Katharine Dougherty of Beaver Dam Road, Newtown. Mr
Dougherty died June 25.
Burial in Huntingtown Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
Frank Rothe
Frank E. Rothe, 62, longtime resident of Shady Rest, Sandy Hook, died July 18
at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was the husband of Marion Drew Rothe of
8 Old Towantic Hill Road, Oxford.
He was born in Bridgeport June 11, 1933, son of the late Francis and Anna
Sherwood Rothe. He had been a resident of Oxford for the past nine years.
He was employed as a foreman at Sikorsky Aircraft for over 40 years. He was a
member of the Hiram Lodge No 18 AF&AM, and Mirah Chapter of the Eastern Star,
both in Sandy Hook.
He is also survived by three sons, Steven Rothe of Yorktown, Va., Clifford
Rothe of Southbury, and Glenn Rothe of Rome, N.Y.; two brothers, Fred Rothe of
Albermarle, N.C., and Richard Rothe of Monroe, N.H.; 6 grandchildren; and one
greatgrandson. He was predeceased by a son, Keith Rothe.
Funeral services will be held at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street,
Newtown, July 22, at 11 am. Burial will follow in Zoar Cemetery.
Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home, Friday, July 21, at 8 pm.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, July 21, between 6 and 9 pm.
Donations in memory of Mr Rothe may be made to Connecticut Hospice in
Branford, Conn.; or to the American Cancer Society.
Mary Petersen
Mary Frances Taylor Petersen, 57, mother of Michael J. Petersen of Newtown,
died July 18, at her home in Bethel. She and her husband, Ronald E. Petersen,
recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.
Mrs Petersen was born in Philadelphia, Pa., July 8, 1938, a daughter of
William and Anna M. Sanford Taylor. In 1953, she moved to Bethel.
After raising her family, Mrs Petersen was the office manager for her
husband's plumbing and heating business for the past 20 years.
She was a member of the St Mary's Church, Bethel.
Besides her husband and son, Mrs Petersen is survived by another son, Ronald
W. Petersen of New Milford; a brother, James R. Taylor of Lee Summitt, Mich.;
two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Regional Hospice of Western
Connecticut, 87A Sandpit Road, Danbury 06810; or to the American Cancer
Society, 40 North Street, Danbury 06810.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 21, at 10 am, at St Mary
Church, Bethel. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.
Howard Kemmerer
Howard A. Kemmerer, 63, formerly of Newtown, died July 17, in Cincinnati,
Ohio. He was the husband of Joanne Sisko Kemmerer of Cincinnati.
Mr Kemmerer worked as an administrative county agent with the University of
Connecticut Extension Service, retiring and moving from Newtown to Cincinnati
in 1987.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Daniel Kemmerer, and daughter, Amy
Shawhan, both of Cincinnati; a sister, Barbara Steltzer of Lakeworth, Fla.;
and two granddaughters.

A Requiem High Mass was celebrated the morning of July 20 at Immaculate
Conception Church; one will be celebrated Saturday, July 22, at 10 am, in St
Joseph Novitiate, Hart's Content Road, Round Top, N.Y. Burial will be in St
Joseph Novitiate Cemetery.
