Winter Wouldn't Wait

(with photos)

Have you ever felt like you missed out on something? Hawley fifth graders took

on the roles of teenage animals who felt that hibernating all winter made them

miss out on all the winter fun.

Mother Nature and their own parents gently pressured the animals to hibernate,

but found that teenagers are not always easy to persuade. But struggle as they

might to stay up, the lively teenager animals finally succumbed to a good

winter's sleep.

The players entertained the assembled parents, students and guests with

wonderful singing, dancing and acting. Students prepared well for their three

performances, Thursday and Friday morning, and again Monday evening.

The actors were Casey McManus (Bertha Bear), Caitlin Kimball (Mother Nature),

Christine Terrance (Doctor Schlock), Alex Konneker, Peter Oggeri and Sarah

Salbu (the three children and Nature Lovers) Scott Suhoza (Tour Guide and Bear

Parent), Abby Atkinson (Squirrel), Katie Winkler (Turtle) and Thomas Santella

(Skunk), Richard Temple (Ground Hog), and Kara Whipkey (Frog).
