Sharing Life's Bounty - Montessori Students Present Holiday Program At
Nunnawauk
Last week, smiles were contagious in the Community Room as 49 students from
Newtown Montessori School entertained seniors at Nunnawauk Meadows. The second
annual holiday program is just one of many intergenerational programs
sponsored by the school for those at Nunnawauk.
The 30-minute program had a harvest theme and included numerous songs, poetry,
music, and expressions of caring. The seniors particularly enjoyed a humorous
song about hibernation, where the students acted out the parts of beaver,
slugs, and other creatures. And residents joined in a rendition of the holiday
favorite, "To Grandmother's House We Go."
The first through third graders then presented each senior with a gift-warpped
"Box Of Love," and the fourth through sixth graders offered each a yellow
carnation, the symbol of friendship.
"It's wonderful for children to see vibrant adults," said one of the
chaperones. "It's such a lovely group."
In addition to offering holiday programs, the students go door-to-door and
deliver newsletters to Nunnawauk residents each month - "with hugs and kisses
all around."
