NHS Boys JV Beats Kolbe
The NHS boys' JV basketball team showed a lot of courage and character on
Tuesday night as it came from behind to defeat a tough Kolbe Cathedral team,
on the road, 47-42, to finish the season at 12-4.
Down 22-6 midway through the second period, the JV 'Hawks caught fire and
closed the gap to 35-31 headed into the final quarter before outscoring the
home boys 16-7 in the final frame to win it.
Tucker Reed and Matt Prasauckas were big on the boards for Newtown during the
rally, Reed clearing everybody out in the paint and Prasauckas scoring on tip
ins. The defensive efforts of Eric Putnam, Tom Fallon, Mike Messimer, Rob
Anders, and Dan Storms were big in the second half as well.
In Newtown's two prior games, the 'Hawks split with Bethel and Masuk, beating
Bethel 67-55 and falling 73-67 at Masuk.
Against Bethel, co-captains Anders and Tim Place combined to score 30 points.
Tom Fallon, Tom Hine, John Paul Lamb, and David Marsislio all played well for
the cause as well.
Against Masuk it was 6-5 center Dan Storms who came up big. " Dan really
emerged in that game, " coach Youngs said. " He rebounded well and played one
of his best games of the season. " Storms scored a game-high 17 points in the
contest. Freshman Courtney Steele went 5-for-5 from the free throw line and
combined with teammate Brent Kochuba for 17 points.
