Newtown's Peter Zingoni scored his 27th goal of the season and added an assist
last Monday night, as Notre Dame of Fairfield mopped up on New Milford, 9-2,
in the South-West Conference Division I hockey championship at the Milford Ice
Pavilion. Zingoni, a sophomore at Notre Dame, starts at left wing for the
Lancers where he has posted impressive scoring numbers in each of his first
two seasons.
As a freshman last season, Zingoni was named first team All-Conference as he
finished second in the state with 64 points (23 goals).
This winter, the rising hockey star picked right up where he left off.
Including Monday night's totals, Zingoni has now accumulated 62 points on 27
goals and 35 assists which is again second in the state behind teammate Peter
Toomey. His team, meanwhile is currently 18-2 and ranked fifth in the Hartford
Courant's state poll.
" Peter is a great player, " said Notre Dame coach, Marty Roos. " He's a hard
worker and I can't ask for anything more. He had a great year scoring last
year and he's right up there again. He's a good one. He should go far with
hockey. He still needs to get his marks up in school but he's dedicated to the
sport. "
" I guess I've had a pretty good season, " said Zingoni, who enrolled in the
Fairfield Catholic School specifically to play hockey. " I grew up playing for
Mr Roos and I've been skating with him at this rink since I was three years
old. I owe a lot to the whole Roos family. "
Notre Dame will face Joel Barlow (who defeated Bethel 8-2 in the SWC Division
II final) on Friday night, February 28, for the South-West Conference
Championship. The game will face off at 7 pm at the Milford Ice Pavilion. The
Lancers defeated Barlow 10-3 during the regular season.
