Habitat For Humanity Volunteers Pitch In
(with photos)
Volunteers converged on a wooded area off Philo Curtis Road last weekend to
begin laying the groundwork for the construction of two 1,200-square-foot
affordable homes.
Habitat for Humanity has raised $100,000 to construct the homes, which will
eventually be sold at low cost, with no-interest mortgages, to families who
qualify under the program's income guidelines.
Habitat for Humanity expects that between 400-500 people will eventually
become involved in the construction of the two homes, including the
prospective owners of the homes, who are expected to contribute 400 hours of
"sweat equity."
The first home built will be a Cape, the second will be a farmhouse-style
home. A large farm silo on the site will be demolished to make way for the
construction. After the site is cleared, two driveways will be installed
simultaneously. Each house will feature a full basement, but no garage.
Those interested in helping out with the project can call Habitat for Humanity
at 431-1392.
