OBITS (Carey; Novaco; Salnitis; Sando; Hull; Johnson; Byers)

James L. Carey

James L. Carey, 81, a retired power plant engineer at Fairfield Hills State

Hospital in Newtown, died May 18 at the Candlewood Valley Care Center in New

Milford.

A resident of Bridgewater for the past 39 years, Mr Carey lived at 218 Main

Street North. He previously lived in Pawling, N.Y.

He was the husband of the late Florence Artist Carey.

Born in White Plains, N.Y., September 11, 1916, Mr Carey was the son of James

L. and Marie Hoffman Carey. He was educated in Pawling Public Schools.

His survivors include a nephew, Jerry O'Hearn of Dover Plains, N.Y.; a

grandniece; and three grandnephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday, May 21 from 7 to 9 pm at the Hufcut Funeral

Home, Main Street, Dover Plains.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22 at 11 am at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Dover Plains.

Teresa M. Novaco

Teresa M. Novaco, 92, mother of Kathie L. Trocolla of Newtown, died May 14 at

Danbury Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Nicholas A. Novaco.

Born in Danbury, December 7, 1905, she was the daughter of Joseph and Marie

Gabriele. She graduated from Danbury High School.

A lifelong Danbury resident, she worked as an inspector for the Barden

Corporation for 25 years before retiring in 1970. She was a member of St

Gregory the Great Church.

Besides her daughter, Kathie, she is survived by two sons, S. Nicholas of

Albuquerque, N.M., and Paul J. of Danbury; two other daughters, Louise P.

Novaco of Livermore, Calif., Marianne F. Hayes of Las Cruces, N.M.; 10

grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and

several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to St Gregory the Great Church

Development Fund, 85 Great Plain Rd, Danbury, CT 06810.

Funeral services were held May 18 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St

Gregory the Great Church, with Deacon Joseph Gabriele, her nephew, as

Homilist. Burial was in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St, Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Ella A. Salnitis

Ella A. Salnitis, 91, mother of Andy Salnitis of Newtown, died May 13 at

Danbury Hospital.

Mrs Salnitis was the wife of the late Vilmars Salnitis.

She was born in Riga, Latvia, December 1, 1906, and was educated there. She

came to this country in 1949 and lived in Bethel since 1952.

Mrs Salnitis was a retired surgical assembler for the Davis & Geck Corporation

in Danbury, where she worked for 15 years. She was a member of the Latvian

Lutheran Church in New York City.

Besides her son, she is survived by a daughter, Edite Mei, with whom she lived

in Bethel; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be private and cremation will take place at the convenience of

the family.

The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, was in charge of

arrangements.

Elizabeth Sando

Elizabeth (Betty) Sando, 67, aunt of Michael Sando of Newtown, died May 17 in

Bridgeport Hospital.

Elizabeth was born in Nanticoke, Penn., the daughter of the late Michael and

Elizabeth Sharnick Sando. She had been a lifelong Bridgeport resident.

Besides her nephew Michael, she is survived by a brother, George Sando of

Trumbull; a sister, Mary Bullick of Bridgeport; two nieces; four nephews; two

aunts; one uncle and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services took place May 20 at the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise

Green Place, Stratford and in St Ambrose Church, Bridgeport with a Mass of

Christian Burial. Interment is in St John's Cemetery, Stratford.

Charles E. Hull

Charles E. "Todd" Hull, 94, of Nunnawauk Road, Newtown, and formerly of Shady

Rest in Sandy Hook, died May 14 at his home.

He was the widower of Fannie Lepista Hull.

Mr Hull was born in Fairfield, March 31, 1904, the son of Charles and

Willemina Hiller Hull.

A resident of Newtown for 59 years, he was a security guard in Newtown for

more than 20 years at the former Connecticut National Bank.

Mr Hull is survived by a daughter, Nancy Rahikka of Newtown; five brothers,

Donald Hull of Hillsboro, N.H., Warren Hull of Southport, Clarence Hull of

Sandy Hook, Fred Hull of Fairfield and Lester Hull of Brooklyn, Conn.; two

sisters, Martha Furlong of Fairfield and Elizabeth Bognar of Trumbull; six

grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held May 18 at the Honan Funeral Home with the Rev Steven Gordon

officiating. Burial in Newtown Village Cemetery.

Aaron W. Johnson

Aaron Webb Johnson Jr, 60, the father of Dale Robert Johnson of Newtown, died

May 18 at Bridgeport Hospital.

Mr Johnson was born in Islip, L.I. March 14, 1938, the son of Aaron W. Sr and

Bernice A. Johnson both of Fairfield.

He was a Bethel resident for most of his life and had worked for the

Vanderbilt Chemical Company in Bethel for more than 10 years. He was also a

police officer for the Town of Bethel.

Survivors also include sons Aaron Lee Johnson of Bethel, Kevin Murphy and Karl

Murphy, both of Danbury; one sister, Shirley F. Johnson of Montgomery, Ala.;

his lifelong companion, Joyce Hynes of Bethel and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Funeral Services will be held at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street,

Danbury, Thursday, May 21, at 8 pm. Cremation will be in Ferncliff Crematory,

Hartsdale, N.Y. The family will receive friends at the Hull Home, Thursday,

May 21 from 6 to 8 pm.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

William Byers

William E. Byers, 71, of Taunton Lane, Newtown, a retired project manager for

Southern Connecticut Gas Co in Bridgeport, died May 13 at Danbury Hospital.

Mr Byers was born in Salem, Ohio, January 11, 1927, a son of Dr Guy and

Lillian Bass Byers.

He served the Army during World War II in the European Theater and graduated

from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1951.

A resident of Newtown for the past 29 years, he was a member of Trinity

Episcopal Church, the local Friends In Service Here and was a former driver

for Meals on Wheels in the area.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Danbury Hospital Development

Fund, Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury 06810.

Services were held May 16 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown. The Rev

Kathleen Adams-Shepherd officiated. Burial in Grandview Cemetery, Salem.

Funeral arrangements were made by Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
