A Tour Of The Town Garage

(with cut)

On Monday March 30, the morning class of four-year-olds at the Newtown

Congregational Co-op Nursery School visited the Newtown Town Garage. This is

part of the children's continuing study of community workers.

Fred Hurley, public works director, showed the children aerial maps of the

Newtown sewer lines. The children found the rooftop of their school on the

maps.

Rick Orten, tool crib manager, showed the children the town trucks and

machines.

The children loved blowing the very loud horn in one of the trucks!

When the class visited the area where all the Newtown road signs are made, the

children spelled out "Mrs Murdy" (their teacher's name) in large letters.

Mr Hurley showed the children the huge piles of sand and explained the dangers

of playing is such high piles of sand.

Finally, the children watched large trucks moving sand and gravel around.

Kathy Murdy said, "We had a great time!"
