Genevieve Rychcik

Genevieve Rychcik, a resident of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., for 26 years, and formerly of Schenectady, N.Y., peacefully passed away on August 5, at the Lutheran Care Center, at the age of 98. Daughter of the late Blanche (LaVallee) and John Kopmeyer, she was born in Charlton, N.Y., on October 15, 1922.

Gen grew up in Schenectady and graduated from the Mont Pleasant High School. In 1941, she married John Kiszkiel, who died at sea in the Pacific in 1945. In 1949, she married Joseph Rychcik, a self-made toolmaker and businessman, who predeceased her in 1985. For many years, Gen was the bookkeeper for the family business. In 1995, she moved to Pleasant Valley to live with family. In her lifetime, Gen was a wonderful wife, a caring mother, a meticulous homemaker, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. While living in Schenectady, she was a founding member of the Alplaus Fire Department Auxiliary and volunteered at Proctors Theater. After moving to Pleasant Valley, Gen was a member of the Vassar Brothers Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Bardavon and Sharon Playhouses. Even if she did not achieve any worldly accomplishments, she meant the world to her family.

Gen is survived by her four children, Carol Kiszkiel Luf (Skip) of Newtown, Susan Dempsky (Rick) of Glenville, N.Y., Tim Rychcik (Greer) of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., and Mike Rychcik (Judy) of Spencertown, N.Y.; ten grandchildren, Keith, Doug, Lisa, Rick (Bucky), Emily, Beth, Katie, Stan, Brian, and Chloe; 16 great-grandchildren, Max, Greta, Linus, Otto, Logan, Braydon, August, Mason, Lucas, Joseph, Marek, Sullivan, London, Corinne, Hudson, and Ford; her sister Louisa of Oakdale, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Mathew; two brothers, John and Henry (Bud); and two sisters, Amelia and Ruth (Sis).

A calling period will be held on Saturday, August 14, from 11 am to noon at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville, N.Y. A funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens.
