ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS

Final reminder that THE VIOLENT FEMMES will be in New Haven this weekend. The

Boston trio will be at Toad's Place on Friday, June 4, for an all ages show.

Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 at the door. Double Dong and Paradise

Vendors both have opening sets.

GWAR has been added to the New Haven club's schedule, with a show on Tuesday,

June 29, also all ages. Skinlab has the opening job for that show. For July,

LUSCIOUS JACKSON will be returning to the club on the 1st. This is another all

ages show. No opener has been named yet.

Hope you wrote the July 12 FISH date that had been announced for Toad's Place

in pencil on your calendar, because the show has been postponed, without

explanation. The postponement came from the band, not the club, and there is

no hint of what the new date might be yet. Keep your pencil at the ready...

Tickets will be going on sale this weekend -- Saturday, June 5, 10 am -- for

JEWEL at The Meadows in Hartford on July 28. Rusted Root will be opening that

show.

Tickets for THE CRANBERRIES' return to Connecticut -- but to the Oakdale, not

the Meadows -- are also going on sale Saturday morning. Dolores O'Riordan and

men will be at the Wallingford theatre on Sunday, August 2. Tickets are $30.50

and $40.50 apiece.

Last week's column included quite a bit of information concerning the ANN &

NANCY WILSON performance at Mohegan Sun Casino (July 2), and an even earlier

column mentioned the June 25 HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH. While tickets are

necessary for those shows, the casino has a busy summer schedule that includes

a wide variety of free PErformances. Among the performers who will be in

Uncasville this summer, free of charge, are JIM CAPALDI and DAVE MASON, July

9; JOHN KAY & STEPPENWOLF, July 19; JOHN MAYALL, July 20; ROOMFUL OF BLUES and

DUKE ROBILLARD, July 25; THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS, August 9; JOAN JETT & THE

BLACKHEARTS, August 10; and BLUE OYSTER CULT, August 26.

MATTHEW PHELPS returns to The Towne Crier in Pawling this weekend. Phelps, a

senior at New Fairfield High School last year, was also the 1998 season

champion of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association. Phelps will be

playing the opening set for JOHN WHELAN, the seven-time all-Ireland accordion

champion, and his band from Ireland.

The June 5 show at the Crier will be Phelps' final performance in the US until

the end of the summer. Beginning soon, he will be competing individually and

as a member of the Grade 1 Halifax Regional Police Pipes and Drums in Halifax,

Nova Scotia.

Tickets for Saturday night are $17.50 and can be reserved by calling the club

at 914/855-1300.

Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
