ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
MOPPIN SAUCE, the area's best retro band, was picked to perform at a benefit
later this month for Rick Reusch. Rick is a Newtown resident who had a freak
accident late last year that has left him all but paralyzed from the neck
down. Friends and family are rallying to help Rick's family with the medical
bills, as well as morale support.
On February 27, Moppin Sauce will be playing a show at the Monroe Firehouse.
Trouble is, the $25 tickets have already sold out!
The community can still help Rick and his family out, however. There are
raffle tickets still available for a drawing that will be held that night, and
winners do not have to be present in order to claim their prizes. For $2 per
ticket, anyone can still take a chance at winning a 32-inch color TV; a round
trip limo to Foxwoods Casino, with an overnight stay at the Grand Pequot
Towers and dinner at the Veranda Cafe; a 26-inch, 18-speed mountain bike; or
six Beanie Baby bears. Tickets can be purchased at The Natural Look in Sandy
Hook, where Rick's sister, Candice Davies, works.
There is also a registered non-profitable charitable organization fund set up
at People's Bank in Newtown. Anyone who would like to donate to the Richard
Reusch Fund can visit the bank during regular hours. People's in Newtown is on
Queen Street.
The good news for Moppin Sauce fans is the band has two more shows scheduled
that aren't yet sold out. The group will be at Fat Daddy's in Watertown on
Friday, March 19, and Saturday, April 17.
JIM ALLEN, TERRENCE MARTIN and DAN BONIS have a show at The Bottom Line in New
York City next week. The trio will be playing a short 8 pm set on Wednesday,
February 10. Allen, a Newtown resident, will be performing on mandolin guitar;
Martin is a singer-songwriter; and Bonis, of Redding, will be playing dobro.
Tickets will be going on sale Friday morning for a show by THE BLACK CROWES at
the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford. The band is celebrating the release of its
latest album with the all-but-obligatory tour, which arrives in Connecticut on
March 10. The band will play a second date in the state, three nights later,
at Mohegan Sun Casino's events center in Uncasville. Tickets for the Oakdale
show are $32.50 each; I don't have a price for the Mohegan Sun show.
CRY, CRY, CRY, the folk genre's answer to The Dream Team, will be in the state
in April. The triumvirate consists of singer-songwriters LUCY KAPLANSKY,
RICHARD SHINKELL and DAR WILLIAMS, each strong performers of their own accord,
but even more worthy of attention now that the three have joined forces and
hit the road. Kaplansky, Shindell and Williams will be the guests in the
monthly series called Acoustic Studio, on April 18, at Rich Forum in Stamford.
Tickets are usually $15 for these shows, but the Cry, Cry, Cry performance has
a limited number of $25 seats also set up. Performance time is 7 pm.
Later this month, NOT FAMOUS YET will be in the Studio. The February 20 show
will begin at 8 pm. On April 11 (making the monthly series more than
once-monthly...) COZY SHERIDEN performs, with Peter Mulvey opening. And on May
7, GREG GREENWAY will be the performer. Ticket details, call 325-4466.
MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES tickets are on sale for the band's show at Sacred
Heart University. The Bosstones will be at the school's Pitt Center on Friday,
February 26. Tickets are $20 each, and can be ordered by calling 371-7846.
The return of all things 80s continues in Danbury next week, when QUIET RIOT
pulls into town for a show at Tuxedo Junction on February 11. Call the club at
748-2561 for ticket details.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
