ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS

Tickets are going on sale Saturday morning for ROGER WATERS at the SNET

Oakdale. Waters will be at the Wallingford theatre Sunday, August 8. The 7:30

pm show doesn't look like it has a headliner. Not yet, anyway. Tickets will be

available as of 10 am on May 8; call the Oakdale directly at 265-1501.

TREBLEHOOK, the trio featured during April at both the Newtown Coffee House

and St Paul's Coffee House in Woodbury, is adding to its performance schedule.

Planners at Sweet Harmony's Coffee House, at St Andrew's Church in Marble

Dale, have invited to Newtown group to perform on Friday, May 14. The coffee

house begins at 8 pm that evening; for details, call 860/868-2275.

Laszlo's Arts Cafe in Monroe continues its mission to bring arts to its

audience, with the release this week of its schedule for May. Upcoming shows

include everything from rock and blues to techno and jazz. Some nights are

purely headliners, while others will be performances by one band followed by

open mic for the public. Call the cafe, 459-8889, for details, or just visit

the cafe at 179 Main Street/Route 25.

May plans including the following: May 7, open mic night featuring the

rock-blues duo HALF CLYDE at 8 pm, open mic at 9:30; May 8, local funk/jazz

band HINDU KUSH at 8 pm, funk jam with JOHN AND PIERCE at 10 pm; May 13, jazz

with MATT, 8 pm; May 14, local band THE LISTINGS at 8 pm, open mic at 9:30;

May 15, local bands night, with ZERO CHANCE at 8, and POINT OF VIEW at 10; May

20, THE MANNY PAVONE GROUP performs blues/southern rock, 7 pm; May 21,

original compositions by MAGGIE ATWELL, 8 pm, then open mic at 9:30; May 22,

techno by PLUTONIA at 8 pm, jam/dance music by ska/core band TAPROOT at 10 pm;

May 27, the rock duo SIDE PROJECT will perform the best of the 60s-80s, 8:30

pm; May 28, folk performance by FRANK McGOLDRICK at 8 pm, open mic 9:30; and

on May 30, a folk, blues and jazz concert by local bands to benefit the Free

Arts Cultural Environmental Community Center (FACE). Performances will be by

MY DAD'S TRUCK, GAIL ROBIN SMITH, KENT ALDRICH, WATER BACON and THE

BONACCORSO-LEWIS-SHANLEY JAZZ TRIO.

JOHN GORKA, who just performned a phenomenal concert in Newtown less than

three months ago to benefit radio station WPKN, returns to our area this

month. Still touring to support his latest release, called After Yesterday ,

Gorka will be at Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling, NY , on Sunday, May 16. Tickets

for the 8 pm show are $20 apiece, and can be reserved by calling 914/855-1300.

Jennifer Kimball will open the show.

Future shows at the cafe also include the Irish band Lunasa on May 14; POPA

CHUBBY, May 21; the Danbury band SANS CHERUBS, May 23, with Peter Spink

opening; THE JOHN WHELAN BAND, June 6, with special guest Matthew Phelps; THE

McKRELLS, June 6; COMMANDER CODY & HIS LOST PLANET AIRMEN, June 20; another

Irish band, ALTAN, on June 25; SUSAN McKEOWN (pronounced "mick-yone") & THE

CHANTING HOUSE, June 27; and THE SLOAN WAINWRIGHT BAND, with COSY SHERIDAN

opening, on July 3. Information on all of these shows is obtainable through

the phone number above.

The cafe is just over the state line. The easiest way to get there is to take

I-84 into New York state, take the exit for Route 22, and follow that road

right into Pawling -- the cafe is on the right hand side. Bring lots of money

if you're planning to eat dinner before the show, though; the place is not

inexpensive.

Toad's Place in New Haven has a few more shows added to its schedule this

week. FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE, who has a new album to promote, will return to

Connecticut on Monday, May 24, for an all ages club. Owsley and Logan 3 will

open that show.

In June, something called LEFTOVER SALMON will be at the club on June 6, also

for an all-ages show. Blueground Undergrass opens that show. KING'S X returns

on July 19, with Protein and Misconception doing opening sets (also also for

all ages). And FRANK BLACK & THE CATHOLICS will be at Toad's Place on July 22.

No opener has been named yet. Tickets and details, call the club at 624-TOAD

(8623).

THE LILITH FAIR, which is rumored to be on its last leg this summer, will

return to The Meadows Music Theatre in Hartford on Wednesday, August 4.

According to a rep from SFX Entertainment, which is in charge of booking and

the ticket sales for a few venues including The Meadows, tickets will most

likely not be on sale for "a few weeks."

Start planning for the day off now, though. Along with SARAH McLACHLAN, this

year's Hartford stop will include SHERYL CROW, THE PRETENDERS and MYA on the

Mainstage, with Second Stage and Village Stage performances by AIMEE MANN,

LAM, CREE SUMMER, NINA GORDON, BERTINE.

Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road, rearranging my schedule so

that I can see you at the Lilith Fair this year.

Questions and comments concerning "On The Road" (or anything music related)

should be sent to Shannon Hicks, c/o Bee Publishing Co., 5 Church Hill Road,

Newtown 06470, or shannon @thebee.com. Include a phone number for

confirmation, please . If you don't have a stamp or a piece of paper or a

writing utensil that works, give me a call! Phone number at the office is

426-3141. Shows listed on the calendar at club locations are for ages 21 and

over unless specified.
