ON THE ROAD FOR JULY 18
INXS will playing in Connecticut this fall, finally, after wayyyyy tooooo
longgg. The awesomely boys from Down Under will be at The Webster in Hartford
on September 22.
Their latest album is Elegantly Wasted , which is what they will of course be
playing heavily from. I've heard it (own it) - if you haven't heard the rest
of the album, aside from the title track, it's an excellent return to the days
of earlier INXS, much like what they were doing around their Listen Like
Thieves time: Straightforward words, lots of guitar, great bass lines. Not as
far back as the digital stuff on The Swing , but still cool nevertheless.
Tickets aren't on sale yet. I'll let you know when.
A just-announced show for next weekend, SHAWN COLVIN will be at The Webster
Theatre in Hartford on Sunday, July 27. Duncan Sheik opens. Tickets are $27.50
for reserved seats, $25 for general admission, and are available from the
Webster box office or Pro-Tix outlets.
At the former Big Birch Ski Area, most recently the former Powder Ridge, in
Patterson, NY, a concert listing has been announced for this summer. Now
called Thunder Ridge Concert Pavilion, the ski
area-turned-concert-site-during-summer opened last week with a show by SANTANA
and RUSTED ROOT. The same lineup plays the Meadows in Hartford this weekend.
Up next will be THE WALLFLOWERS on July 19 - that's this Saturday, so hurry up
if you want to go to that show. Unlike THE COUNTING CROWS show at The Meadows
on July 29 with the `Flowers opening, this one features Jakob Dylan and band
performing as headliners.
Next weekend features a Blues & Chili Fest, starring DELBERT McCLINTON, with
Blue in the Face and Garry & The Moodswingers on July 26; something called The
Good Time Festival, with LOVIN' SPOONFUL, THE RASCALS and THE MAMAS AND PAPAS,
on August 9; and the regular lineup of three members of THE MONKEES who
usually get together to tour, on August 22.
Tickets for Thunder Ridge shows are available at the Thunder Ridge box office,
on Route 22 for anyone who feels like taking a ride. Otherwise they are
available through Pro-Tix - charge by calling 800/477-6849, or purchase in
person at any Strawberries Records & Tapes stores.
ELECTRICWATER's new album is getting closer and closer to its release date.
The latest note to come into the office promises availability "next month."
Until then, the Newtown band has a show Friday night (7/18) at Boppers in
Danbury, and then on July 29 at Toad's Place in New Haven. The New Haven show
is part of one of the club's Electric Tie Dye Nights. This time around it will
be the aforementioned ElectricWater along with Missing Joe & Peter Gale and
Carfax Abby performing.
A reminder that Woodbury Ski Area is presenting its Alternative Festival this
Sunday. From 11 am to 6 pm, the Route 47 (Woodbury) ski/skateboard area will
host a lineup with VAPORHEAD, KISS THE MIDGET, ASH CAN FLASH, ZOLA TURN, LUCKY
13 and LITTLE JOHN. Skateboarding and in-line skating demos, multi-cultural
concession stands, and food vendors are also part of the plan for the day.
Tickets are $20 at the gate.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
