ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
Tonight in Newtown, a young musician will be making his performance debut.
PLUTONIA has an electronica/techno performance set up for 8 pm at The Garage,
Newtown's teen center on Church Hill Road. Admission is $5, and the show
should be pretty interesting.
When Plutonia visited the office a few weeks ago, we took over my editor's
computer for a little while and turned his whole office into a sound booth.
Imagine what this guy is going to do with a full building at his disposal,
armed with an excellent program for music, his own sound system, and the whole
lights/strobes, etc effects!
Now that PEARL JAM has returned to the Meadows Theatre in Hartford (Sunday,
Sept 13), there are just two shows left on the venue's outdoor schedule for
this year. The RADIO 104 BIG DAY OFF is coming up on October 3. 20 bands for
20 bucks including CRACKER, DISHWALLA, BETTER THAN EZRA, THE AMAZING ROYAL
CROWNS, MARCY PLAYGROUND. Tickets are available through Pro-Tix, or you can
win them by listening to the radio station.
On October 11 is the AEROSMITH date that had to be rescheduled from August.
According to a Meadows representative, tickets for the lawn area are still
available, but are selling "very, very well." Fuel, who is also on the radio
104 Big Day Off list, returns to Hartford to open that show. Tickets for this
are also available through Pro-Tix.
Fresh out of his temper management courses, Tommy Lee and MOTLEY CRUE will be
at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford on November 1.
LESLIE WEST is at The Danger Zone in Waterbury next week, on Friday, September
25.
The Bethel Arts Festival is this weekend, in Bethel coincidentally. The
two-day event will run much of the day Saturday and Sunday, with a plethora of
activities for all ages. Downtown Bethel businesses will be holding special
sidewalk sales in and around the Greenwood Avenue area. The majority of the
festival will be centered around P.T. Barnum Square and the municipal lawn
area, with over 70 artists and crafters offering their wares; a children's
petting zoo will be set up; games of all kinds; and lots of food.
Of course, what would any festival be without music? Performing at noon both
days this weekend will be Bethel resident OPHELIA, who has been receiving
national attention for her albums April Storm and Native Ground... Stand My
Ground . Ophelia will be joined during her performances by Sandy Hook
percussionist Mark Ingram. In addition, there will be performances by the
DANBURY MADHATTERS and a group called ACOUSTICS. For a complete schedule of
events, call 743-6500, or just take your chances on who will be performing and
get out to enjoy the festival any time this weekend.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
