ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
So the ROLLING STONES are coming to town and of course there is already talk
-- and debate -- going on in the office concerning the tickets. The band will
be at the Hartford Civic Center for its first Hartford performance in 17 years
on Sunday, March 28. Opening will be GOO GOO DOLLS, which I find interesting
-- why would the Stones even bother with an opening act?
Anyway, tickets are going on sale Saturday morning at 10 am. They'll be
available through the Civic Center's box office, and all TicketMaster outlets
(Filene's, Video Plus and HMV stores). There is a two-ticket limit per person
for the first ten rows on the floor. Those tickets will be available at the
box office or by phone only. There is a maximum of six tickets per person,
regardless of location. And a wristband system will be used at the box office
and TicketMaster outlets.
Here's where the discussion comes in to play. Tickets start at $40.50 and run
as high as $126, "plus applicable service fees." That's from the box
office/TicketMaster! Granted, we all know a ton of these tickets are going to
fall into the hands of people who are going to double and triple the face
value of the tickets they resell, but those costs are obscene to begin with. I
really believe that. No band is worth shucking out that kind of money for.
Co-worker Judi, on the other hand, says those prices are cheap for the Stones.
Either way, good luck to those of you hoping to purchase tickets this weekend.
A slight change of plans. SUSAN McKEOWN will now be opening the NATALIE
MERCHANT show at the Oakdale Theatre next month. Tickets are still available
for the December 10 show.
Prior to the superb GREG BROWN performance last week at Edmond Town Hall,
WPKN's Harry Minot quietly told me some good news: The next PKN-sponsored
concert in Newtown will be on February 4, when music lovers return the
also-always-wonderful JOHN GORKA.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
