ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS

Tickets will be available beginning Saturday morning for CHRIS ISAAC's return

to Connecticut. Opening will be SEAN MULLINS, who recently was part of the

radio 104 Big Day Off bill at the Meadows. The two will be performing in

Wallingford on November 21.

One of the original Big Bands that made swing so popular about five decades

ago is still around, winning Grammy Awards and touring. THE COUNT BASIE

ORCHESTRA -- a bit away from the genre we usually discuss here, but enjoying a

resurgence and always worth mentioning -- will actually be in Connecticut next

week. Led today by Conductor Grover Mitchell, the orchestra will be at The

Warner Theatre in Torrington on Thursday, October 29, for an 8 pm performance.

The Count Basie Orchestra has been awarded Grammy 16 Awards, most recently in

1997 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Performance. These are, like I said, the

guys who made this music from the beginning. The band debuted in 1935 in

Kansas City and believe it or not, the majority of the sound of that band

still swings from musicians hand-picked by Count Basie himself !

In addition to Mr Mitchell, the band today is vocalist Chris Murrell and 19

additional performers committed to upholding and advancing the "Big Band

sound" as an American institution.

Tickets for next week's show run from $10 to $18, with all seats reserved.

Call the Warner's box office for details or reservations, 860/489-7180.

On Friday the 13th (of November), THE FLYS will be at The Brickyard in

Hartford. A Trauma Records band, The Flys have their song "Got You Where I

Want You" not only on their own debut album but also on the Disturbing

Behavior soundtrack. The band is currently touring with JANUS STARK, an

English rock n' roll trio featuring Gizz from PRODIGY.

Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
