To the Editor,

As the chair of the Newtown Democratic Town Committee, I appreciate and am encouraged by Dennis Brestovansky’s letter of August 12, “Town GOP Backing Rosenthal For Re-Election.”

We are proud of all that we have accomplished in concert with Dan Rosenthal over the last four years and look forward to continuing to work closely with him. Together with the Democratic majorities on the Board of Education, Legislative Council, and Board of Finance, Newtown Democrats have been able to achieve great things over the past few years.

With the re-election of Democratic candidate Maureen Crick Owen to the Board of Selectmen, Newtown will continue to have a steadfast advocate for all of its residents.

In the past four years, with the cooperation of some of our colleagues across the aisle, we have built a police station that came in on time and under budget, paved over 90 miles of roads, passed common sense budgets, and are working together toward making sure that we invest our tax money wisely now to avoid unnecessary debt in the future.

We strongly believe that this year’s town election is not a reason to change course. Our slate of candidates have committed to our collective vision of “Today, Tomorrow, Together” in the hope that we can work together, regardless of party, to turn down the temperature, avoid the distractions, and preserve the gains we have made in the past few years while ensuring that everyone in our community gets to participate.

Our vision will build stronger school programs, ensure the safety of our vulnerable populations, including our seniors, and continue our investment in Newtown so that we are not caught short in future economic challenges.

The Newtown Democrats have a proven track record of meeting the long term needs of our community. With Dan Rosenthal as our First Selectman, Maureen Crick Owen on the Board of Selectmen, and the other talented Democratic candidates, we will build a brighter future for Newtown.

Today, Tomorrow, Together.

Respectfully,

Eric Paradis

Chair of the Newtown Democratic Town Committee
