To the Editor,

It’s been awhile since I have written to say the people of Newtown and Sandy Hook are the best! As you know, I’ve been collecting returnables for over a year now. Y’all [never] cease to amaze me with your generosity. It’s wonderful to live in a town that helps others when they need it. I, for one, appreciate the way the monies for different organizations have come in.

[As of the] date of this letter (August 21), y’all have given $25,00 to NMRA (Nunnawauk Meadows Residents Association), $500 to American Diabetes Association, $500 to American Cancer Society, $500 to Families United in Newtown (FUN), and a smidgen over $4,000 to FAITH Food Pantry.

Y’all out there in [Newtown Bee] reader’s land, or however you hear of the collection efforts, you are appreciated. My husband, Richard Merrill, and son, Michael Presnell, help sometimes, but 98% of the help comes from the returnables that y’all donate. Many thank-you’s, and we are so grateful to keep going with this.

I am put here on earth to help.... Thank you for being on our team!

Betty Presnell
