Edward H. “Ed” Bucnis, 82, of Newtown, passed away on August 24, at home, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was the beloved husband of Stacia (Von Alt) Bucnis, whom he married on February 24, 1962.

Born on January 17, 1939, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Alex C. Bucnis and the late Annette Rapp Bucnis. He was the middle child of the Bucnis family and the brother and is survived by sisters Alyce Bucnis Miessler and Beverly Bucnis Richards.

Raised and educated in Illinois, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana.

He was employed by LaSalle Nation Bank in 1960, where he met his wife of almost 60 years, Stacia. They started their family and headed east to Connecticut. He was employed by People’s Bank on the executive team for 25 years.

First and foremost, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He knew the importance of family and being there for the people you love and care about. He was a reserved man, but loving and supportive of his treasured family, mostly providing care from the background. His hobbies included traveling, playing cards, and watching sports — football (New York Giants), baseball (New York Yankees), and golf. He and Stacia were fortunate enough to have traveled worldwide.

In addition to his wife, Stacia, he leaves his beloved son, Edward R. Bucnis, and his wife, Lynn, of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; and daughter Rebecca Bucnis Teerlink and her husband, Marc Teerlink ,of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He was preceded in death by his son, David Von Bucnis, and survived by his wife, Kathy Bucnis. In additional to many loved nephews and nieces, he was the proud grandfather of Rachel, Duke, Megan, Kayla, Karen, Jacqueline, Isabella, Lucas, Maximillian, and Nicholas, all of whom provided him with much joy in his life.

We will celebrate his life this coming Monday, August 30. We praise the Lord for his life, we ask for His peace, as we gather at Honan Funeral Home at the following times: visitation from 11 am to noon and the funeral service from noon to 12:45 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed’s honor to the Regional Hospice Center, regionalhospicect.org; to New Foundations International, 44 Great Oak Drive, Garner NC 27529; or to the Kennedy Center, thekennedycenterinc.org.

“My deepest sympathy to your family. A funny story about your dad: he received a phone call from a woman in Denver, Colorado, who was trying to reach me while on leave from the USAF and the operator connected my girlfriend to him. A year later, I met him at my father’s (Alphonse Bucnis’) funeral in Chicago. Your Grandad, Alex, and my father were brothers; so your Edward and I (also named Edward) were cousins. He introduced me to his wife and we all laughed over the incident. Peace be with you.”
