The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has offered a reward of $2,500 for information leading to an arrest of those involved in anti-Semitic graffiti that was discovered on the walls of Congregation Adath Israel last weekend. A Newtown police officer discovered the graffiti on the front and side walls of the Huntingtown Road synagogue during routine building checks the morning of Saturday, August 24. Within hours of that discovery, the ADL announced its reward for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects responsible for the crime.

Many of the responses to Saturday’s announcement from the police department on its Facebook page expressed shock and anger. Some wondered if the reward could be increased, and where donations could be dropped off or made.

The Newtown Democratic Town Committee (DTC) has now announced it is seeking to raise that reward.

The attack on the synagogue, via a post Tuesday on its Facebook page, “is an attack on Newtown. On all of us."

“We would like to show the Synagogue that they are supported by our community,” the post continued.

For those who would like to donate money to the ADL, Newtown DTC Chairman Eric Paradis will be at Starbucks, 79 Church Hill Road, on Thursday evening. Mr Paradis will be collecting checks made out to the Anti-Defamation League beginning at 7 pm.

For those who would like to donate but are unable to meet him at that time, contact the DTC through its Facebook page, Facebook.com/NewtownCTDems.

Newtown DTC Chair Eric Paradis will be accepting donations Thursday night for the Anti-Defamation League, to increase the reward being offered for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for anti-Semitic graffiti at Congregation Adath Israel last weekend.
