Filling the night with popular songs, local band Frandango’s members had guests dancing at the Tenth Annual Botsford Summer Bash on Saturday, August 24. The Botsford Fire Rescue Company Inc hosts the event. Bash committee member Maritza Nezvesky said the “lines have been good” as guests filled the firehouse bays to order dinner.

Underneath a tent outside were more tables, quickly filling as bash-goers sat down to eat. Also out to enjoy the night was Sandy Hook Fire Chief Bill Halstead, First Selectman Dan Rosenthal, Fire Marshal Rich Frampton, and a host of members belonging to Newtown’s five fire companies.

Lining the parking lot at the fire station, 315 South Main Street, was the company equipment, including a tanker truck where resident Iris Brown climbed up a few rungs on the ladder.

After a brief break, Fandango started another set, causing young Charlotte Hydeck to turn toward the live-band sound. She sat with her grandmother Caty Hydeck, watching the musicians perform. Just a few feet away was Katrina Egan and her daughter, Sianna Egan, propped on her hip and dancing to the music.

Indoors and working hard to keep dinner plates filled was 36-year fire company member Arty Schertzer, and member Amanda Sheldon.

While food and drinks were available for purchase, according to Ms Nezvesky, bash coordinators opted not to charge admission this year. The annual event serves as a fundraiser for the fire company.
