CASEY FROBEY

Fairfield University

It will be Casey Frobey’s first year on the pitch for the Fairfield University women’s soccer team after earning four varsity letters under head coach Rupert de los Reyes at Newtown High School and helping lead the Lady Nighthawks to a 31-7-1 record in her last two years along with a CIAC Class LL state championship. Frobey was an NSCAA All-American, an All-New England and an All-State soccer player.

ALLISON FROBEY

Plymouth State University

Her older sister, Allison Frobey, returns as co-captain of the Plymouth State University women’s soccer team. The Lady Panthers were 4-11-2 a year ago and Frobey played and started in 15 games, notching a pair of assists and three shot attempts from the back line.

DAN CASCONE

University of Wisconsin

The 6-3, 315-pound lineman is in his second year with the University of Wisconsin. The big lineman, an All-State selection who made 51 tackles and recorded 13 sacks in his senior year at Newtown High School, was redshirted a year ago by the Badgers and enters the fall looking to get into the mix on the defensive line.

BRENNAN COAKLEY

Penn State University

The 6-4, 244-pound tight end remains in the plans for the Penn State University football team. After suffering a serious knee injury a year ago, Coakley – rated a 5.0 prospect on a scale of 4.9 to 6.1 (defined as Division I prospect; considered a mid-major prospect; deemed to have limited pro potential but definite Division I prospect; may be more of a role player) – returns to the field under coach Joe Paterno. The Nittany Lions will be in Wisconsin on Saturday, November 4.

STEPHANIE LOGAN

Quinnipiac University

The Lady Bobcats finished just 6-19 a year ago, but Stephanie Logan tied a team-high with 81 games played and ranked fifth in the Northeast Conference in hitting percentage (.249) and eighth in blocks per game (.83). She also ranked second on the team in kills (194) and tallied 10 service aces. As a freshman, she played in all 92 matches for the Lady Bobcats and recorded 175 kills, second on the team.

Logan, a junior, is majoring in international business and finance.

DEREK MILES

Eastern Connecticut State University

Derek Miles is in his fourth year with the Eastern Connecticut State University men’s soccer team, having played in 54 games with a goal and three assists on the back line. A 2003 graduate of Newtown High School, Miles – the older brother of Brian and Kyla, both NHS soccer products and CIAC Class LL state champions – helped lead the ECSU Warriors to an 8-7-1 record a year ago. A fan of Silent Critics, Rascal Flatts and ChiPS, Miles logged a team-high 1,310 minutes on the pitch in 2005, starting 14 of 15 games in which he appeared.

RYAN TRACY

University of Pennsylvania

A senior midfielder with the University of Pennsylvania men’s soccer team, Ryan Tracy appeared in all 16 games for the Quakers in 2005, starting nine while registering two goals and an assist. Both goals came against Drexel on September 24 … oddly enough, the same school against which he scored his first collegiate goal in 2004.

Last year, Tracy was named Philadelphia Soccer Seven Co-Player of the Week (September 26) while also being named to the Ivy League Honor Roll that same week. As a freshman, the 2003 graduate of Newtown High School saw time in 10 games for the Quakers, starting three of those games while recording four shots.

At NHS, Tracy was a member of the Connecticut ODP and helped lead the team to the 2002 Region I ODP semifinals.

Tracy is majoring in mechanical engineering.

MIKE TROY

Fairfield University

One of the most prolific scorers in Newtown High School soccer history, Mike Troy has become one of the most versatile players for the Fairfield University men’s soccer team – forward, midfield, and defense during his three-year career.

His accomplishments include being named All-MAAC second team defender as a junior two years after being named to the MAAC All-Rookie team as a forward. Last year, Troy registered a pair of assists – the first set up the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw with Yale and the second help secure the Stags win over Manhattan.

The Fairfield defense was one of the stingiest in the country, allowing just 12 goals in 20 games (fifth-best in Division I.

It was a fine season after injuries limited him to just 10 games as a sophomore. In his short time on the field in 2004, Troy notched the winning goal in a 1-0 decision over the Niagara Purple Eagles.

If he scores four goals as a senior, Troy – who scored a goal in each of his first four collegiate games – will move into the top ten in school history. In 47 games, he has eight goals and four assists for 20 points.

MARCUS TRACY

Wake Forest University

He came out of high school as one of the most heralded freshmen in the country but spent pretty much all of 2005 (save for five games) on the bench nursing a hamstring injury. The Demon Deacons recognize him as an attacking player with unbelievable potential who has an imposing physical present with both skill and speed.

Tracy was named a NSCAA/adidas All-American in 2004 while at Newtown High School and was named a first team All-American (by StudentSportsSoccer.com) and the 2004 Connecticut Player of the Year.

Tracy is the all-time leading scorer at Newtown High School with 100 goals, helping lead the Nighthawks to the CIAC Class LL state championship in 2004.

The Deacons were 13-8-2 a year ago and are 2-0 in 2006, but Tracy has yet to make an appearance.

ROSS COATES

Wesleyan University

The junior defensive end had a solid year for the Wesleyan University football team in 2005, registering eight solo and 18 assisted tackles in eight games. Three of his tackles went for a loss (a total of –12 years) with two of those (good for –11 yards) were sacks.

AMANDA HADGRAFT

Western Connecticut State University

The Western Connecticut State University field hockey team suffered through a 1-12-0 record in 2005, but Amanda Hadgraft, a 2004 graduate of Newtown High School, earned a role as a key member of the team.

In 11 games (seven of those as a starter), Hadgraft scored two goals on 11 shots. Her first goal game in a 4-1 season-opening loss to Dartmouth and the second came in the Lady Colonials’ only win, a 2-0 decision over Wheelock University.

Hadgraft returns to the WCSU bench in 2006, but this time as an assistant coach.

RACHEL BOLMER

Western Connecticut State University

A 2003 graduate of Newtown High School, Rachel Bolmer notched a pair of goals for the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team in 2005. She scored in a 7-1 loss to Plymouth State University and scored in a 2-0 win over Wheelock University. She started in all 13 games for the Lady Colonials and returns to the forward line.

NICK MENTESSANA

University of Missouri – Rolla

As a freshman, Nick Mentessana played in 14 games for the University of Missouri – Rolla men’s soccer team and registered an assist. The 5-7 defender (who was ranked 12th in the final NSCAA rankings in his final year at Newtown High School in 2004) has already played in two games for the Miners, both losses (3-1 to St. Mary’s and 2-1 to Christian Brothers) in the Missouri Southern Soccer Classic.

BRIAN MILES

Montclair State University

In his first year on the pitch for the Montclair State University men’s soccer team, Brian Miles – well remembered for his long, indirect kick feeds to Marcus Tracy at Newtown High School – played in 18 games with 13 starts on defense and registered a pair of assists … both coming in a 7-0 win over John Jay on September 14.

MARC DOHERTY

University of South Florida

College Soccer News listed him as one of the “100 freshman from coast to coast to keep an eye on” and Marc Doherty – a PARADE Magazine All-American, NSCAA/adidas All American and CHSCA Player of the Year as a senior at Newtown High School – is expected to become an integral part of the midfield at the University of South Florida.

He did not, however, see time in the Bulls 1-0 win over Florida International but did appear in the 2-1 loss to Fordham last week.

AMY ROBINSON

University of Vermont

Amy Robinson made the most of her first season with the University of Vermont women’s swim team. The sophomore midfielder hopes to become a more important part of the Warriors fortunes when they open the season Friday, September 1, against Albion College.
