Lessons In Fire Prevention

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Newtown Bridle Lands Association I would like to thank Bob Nute, Newtown’s fire prevention officer, for speaking to our group on Tuesday, August 16. Bob’s presentation was very informative and gave those who attended a lesson in fire prevention.

One major point was the topic of preplanning.  This includes inviting the fire department to come out before an emergency occurs, installing reflective numbers on both sides of your driveway so the emergency vehicles know exactly where you are, and making sure the driveway is clear and wide enough for those vehicles.

Bob, explained that as the fire prevention officer part of his job is to come out to your barn or home to check for potential fire hazards.  I was unaware that not every town has a fire prevention officer.  How fortunate we are to be living in Newtown, where safety is such an important issue.

Again, thank you for your time and expertise,

Andrea Brosnan
