*A quiet week is upon us in the concert chatter as school returns for the 2010-11 academic year (no, no segue there… just trying and thinking at the same time).

Multi-platinum selling Massachusetts rockers GODSMACK are returning to Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, October 9, with Five Finger Death Punch and Drowning Pool to offer the opening sets.

Tickets are $40 and went on sale Thursday morning (September 2) through TicketMaster, and are also available at this point through the casino’s box office.

*A few miles away, at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods, tickets are going on sale this weekend for a November 20 concert by ARETHA FRANKLIN.

Tickets for The Queen of Soul have been set at $45 to $65 and will be available beginning Friday morning, through MGMatFoxwoods.com, by calling the MGM Grand’s box office (866-646-0609), in person up at the Mashantucket box office, and through TicketMaster outlets.

While it’s a quiet week for my column, I do hope most of you will take time to either attend or participate in the Labor Day Parade on Monday, one of my favorite annual events in this town. Enjoy the long holiday weekend and until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
