CrossFit Hook’d (CFHD) opened its doors last month and has set its Grand Opening/Charity Fundraiser for Sunday, September 29, from 9 am to 1 pm. The grand opening will be held at the gym, at 7 Turnberry Lane in Sandy Hook.

The day will offer an opportunity to meet the coaches and owners, learn more about the facility, and support CFHD’s first of many planned charitable events, Barbells for Boobs.

Barbells for Boobs is a nonprofit organization that provides funding to pay for breast cancer detection services as a last resort for thousands of people who do not qualify for assistance elsewhere. In 2009, the first Barbells for Boobs event was held in a parking lot in California with 60 athletes from three local CrossFit affiliates.

Since then, Barbells for Boobs has grown exponentially and now involves more than 45,000 participants across 1,300 affiliates in 23 countries.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be bringing a CrossFit affiliate to Sandy Hook,” says Lauren Milano, OTR/L, co-owner and the Director of CFHD’s CrossFit Kids Program. “CrossFit has always been more than the best all-around fitness program there is. It’s about community and giving back. As a resident of Sandy Hook, I am looking forward to bringing all that CrossFit has to offer to our town.”

The Grand Opening will feature experienced CrossFit athletes from a number of local CrossFit affiliates participating in “Helen Meets Grace,” a traditional CrossFit workout. The general public is invited to participate, and modified versions of the workout will be demonstrated by the CFHD coaching staff so that everyone may participate.

Spectators are welcome free of charge. There is no requirement to donate, but they are welcome and may be made at crossfithookd.com. Additional information is also available by calling 203-364-4892.
