2008 Parade Award Winners

Along with the many awards issued to parade marchers every year at the Labor Day Parade, this year the parade committee added a new award to honor individuals or groups who have been longtime participants and who have helped make the parade a special tradition. This year’s winners of the new Legends & Pioneers Award were the Rockin’ Roosters Square Dance Club, and the late Olga Paproski, who eagerly supported the parade for many years.

The enthusiasm and talent of the many Labor Day Parade participants always proves a challenge for the judges who must decide on the annual awards presented each year. This year was no less a test for the judges, but after careful consideration, the following parade marchers received the honors:

Best Non-Musical Entry went to St Rose; runner-up in that category was the Shriner’s Motor Patrol; Best Fire Company was awarded to the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company; Best Musical Entry, senior division, was the Connecticut Alumni Senior Drum and Bugle Corps; runner-up in that division was the Fairfield Gaelic Pipe Band; Best Musical Entry, junior division, was awarded to the Washington Park Drum Corps; Grace Christian Fellowship Church snagged the Best Float Award, with Trinity Church capturing runner-up award in the float division; St Rose was awarded Best School; and the coveted Rooster Trophy, for most crowd pleasing entry, went to the Connecticut Alumni Senior Drum and Bugle Corps.
