New Energy And Fresh Ideas

To the Editor:

While my husband and my daughter have been involved in local politics for many years now, it was never really my thing. I’ve been a part of the election night celebrations and done some things here and there, but it hasn’t been until this year that I have been so invested in a campaign. Chris Lyddy has brought a new energy, an excitement, and an enthusiasm to his campaign that has made me excited to be a part of the political process!

From his kick-off in June with Congressman Murphy and Representative Kim Fawcett, Chris has made it clear that this race is about our community and each and every person that lives here. It is about ensuring their voices, needs, and concerns are heard in Hartford. It is about being able to count on someone to show up and fight for us on the frontlines of the legislature.

To me, the greatest indication of how hard Chris will work is the dedication he has put into reengaging people in their government. It is clear from Chris’s efforts that he realizes in order to represent Newtown, you need to be in touch with Newtown voters, and the only way to do that is by taking the time to talk with them.

Born and raised in Newtown, Chris knows what matters to people here. Beyond that, he is out talking to people every chance he gets. I have gone out door knocking with him a couple of times. He doesn’t just leave a flyer on someone’s mailbox; he stops to speak with every person he meets. He enjoys listening to people’s stories, about what matters to them, and what they want to see change in Hartford. Chris has already begun to fulfill his promise of giving the voice back to the people.

I know that this election season there are many candidates running and many races to watch. While much of the nation has been swept up in a wave of new energy and fresh ideas by Presidential candidate Barack Obama, those of us here in Newtown can be swept up in that same wave of energy and new ideas by Chris Lyddy. I hope that you will join me in voting for this enthusiastic, dedicated candidate on November 4!

Sincerely,

Maribeth Hemingway
