AAA Offers Free Driving Improvement Classes
WATERBURY â Experienced greater Waterbury motorists can lower their auto insurance costs while improving their driving skills when they enroll in AAAâs Driver Improvement Program classes that teach the basics of defensive driving and provide current driving practice updates.
In October and November, AAA will conduct Driver Improvement Program classes at:
The Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, 84 Progress Drive, on October 4 and 7 and November 15 and 16 from 8:30 am to noon.
âOur program is aimed at drivers with several years of experience, who wish to improve or refresh their driving skills,â explains Fran Mayko, AAAâs public affairs manager and DIP coordinator. âBut thereâs an even greater benefit to taking class if youâre over 60: you qualify for a discount of up to five percent on your auto insurance per Connecticut state law.â
To obtain discount, a drivers must present their insurance company with a completion certificate from a state-approved class. Some companies provide a discount to drivers aged 55 and older, but Ms Mayko suggests motorists check with their individual carriers to determine age requirements and discount amounts.
People who complete the training will receive the certificate at the conclusion of the two-day class.
âFor many years, AAA Southern New England-CT has conducting driver improvement classes in its North Haven facility, but now with expanded resources and staff, weâre able to offer additional classes in Fairfield County,â said Ms Mayko.
The club continues to look for additional venues such as community centers, police community rooms, libraries, and senior citizen centers to hold future classes.
Classes are free to AAA members and $20 for nonmembers. To register, call 203-765-4222, extension 5141. For more information on the program, contact Ms Mayko at 203-928-6509.
