Comedian Joining Womenâs Centerâs Annual Walk
DANBURY â October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury is hosting its annual Community United Against Domestic Violence 4k walk Sunday, October 3, on the practice field at WestConnâs Westside Campus on Lake Avenue Extension.
The agencyâs main focus this year is on awareness and prevention of teen dating violence; 60 percent of teens in this country are in abusive relationships, and 25 percent of that abuse is physical.
Nationally recognized comedian Christine OâLeary will serve as the special guest emcee at the walk.
The event will also feature vocal performances and music, African dancing demonstrations, a Zumba warm up, games for the kids, treats, and much more. Rain or shine, registration begins at 8:30 am, followed by the opening ceremony at 9:30 and the walk at 10.
In the event of inclement weather, all walk activities will be held in the OâNeill Center at WCSU.
Preregistration is $50 per team, $25 per individual, $10 per student; Walk day registration is $60 for a team, $35 for an individual, $15 for students.
