To Share Stories At Library

Award-winning photographer Marc-Yves Regis will be at C.H. Booth Library on Thursday, October 7, at 7 pm, to share his experiences from a recent trip to Haiti through his photography.

Mr Regis has traveled to the Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, England, France, Haiti, St Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago on special assignment, using his camera as a tool to document the human rights struggles of the voiceless, while capturing their courage and beauty.

He is the author of three books — Haiti Through My Eyes, a selection of poetry about Haiti; Deadly Road to Democracy, a first person account of the country’s violent struggle for democracy; and Two Good Feet, a photographic documentary of physically challenged Haitian children.

Mr Regis finished his latest book, When Freedom Comes, a photographic documentation about the lives of Haitian braceros, or field hands, in the highly restrictive sugarcane plantations in the Dominican Republic.

For the past five years, he has accompanied a medical team setting up makeshift clinics in some of the bateyes that provide medicine and medical care for the poor.
