Pink Ribbon Wreath Events Set For Breast Cancer Awareness

NEW MILFORD — New Milford Hospital and the Greater New Milford Breast Care Initiative will host pink ribbon wreath-decorating events to commemorate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The wreath hanging event at New Milford Hospital will take place Friday, October 8, at 11 am, in the main lobby of the hospital. On that day, staff at the hospital will have the opportunity to participate in the Passionately Pink day by making a $5 donation to the hospital’s free mammogram fund and wearing pink.

In addition to the wreath-decorating events, New Milford Hospital will conduct a Pink Ribbon Drum Circle at the hospital’s chapel on Friday, October 15, from 10 to 11 am.

According to Denise Mariconda, RN, breast health navigator at New Milford Hospital, “October is annually designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we use events such as the wreath decorating as opportunities to raise awareness of the fight against breast cancer. Early detection and prevention education have been our best and most effective weapons.”

The New Milford Senior Center is also holding a Pink Tea for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at its wreath-hanging event on Wednesday, October 20, at 10:30 am. Registration is required and anyone interested in participating is asked to call the center at 860-355-6075. The Roxbury Senior Center will hold a ceremony during its monthly luncheon scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, at 12:30 pm. To register, call 860-210-0056.

These events are free and open to the public. Breast cancer survivors and their families are especially requested to attend.
