On September 25, we once again had a wonderful Health Fair at the middle school. It was our seventeenth annual! The weather was absolutely beautiful and we came close to a record number of exhibitors and visitors. The day was exceptional and it was due to the work of many, many hands. The utmost thanks go to Don Roos and his crew at the middle school. Their dedication and hard work is extraordinary.

We want to thank all of the exhibitors and participants at the fair; they are truly a joy to work with. Great work was also accomplished by residents donating to the Salvation Army Food Pantry, as well as significant numbers of drugs disposed of at the Drug Take-Back program.

We also want to give a special thanks to our sponsors, Aqua Environmental Lab, American Home Radon Services, Big Y, Crystal Rock, Edmond Town Hall Theatre, Family Health Care Center, Dr Bryson Filbert, Fraser Woods School, Kevin and Beth Koschel, Masonicare at Newtown, The Newtown Bee, Newtown Lions Club, Newtown Park and Recreation, A New Beginning Salon, Papa Al’s, Sal e Pepe Restaurant, Stop & Shop, Tambascio’s Italian Grill, Newtown Prevention Council, and the Bicycle Goodie Shop.

And a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful food service folks that faithfully support us — Carminuccio’s, Franco’s, Katherine’s Kitchen, the MeatHouse, My Place Restaurant, Newtown Deli and Catering, Newtown Pizza Palace, and the Villa. It is all of their support that makes such an event possible.

Thank you to all the firefighters, ambulance, EMT personnel, and police; this town is so fortunate to have such dedicated and talented people. With all the other challenges we face, we are blessed to have such terrific community events that bring us together, and let us have some good clean fun.

And to all the residents, the fair’s attendees, thank you for coming, it is for you that we work to share all of the free health screenings and health and safety info to keep Newtown the great town that it is.

I also want to add a very heartfelt thank you to Dr Grossman and Dr Draper and our Health District staff (Maureen, Mike, Ed, Suzette and Keith) — all of their support, hard work and senses of humor are invaluable and make the difference everyday, and especially fair day!
