Two Boys Arrested After Fight

At High School

Police report that they arrested two of three boys who were involved in a disturbance at about 3 pm on Thursday, September 23, in a hallway at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road.

All three students involved in the incident are under age 18, so their identities are shielded from public disclosure by state law.

Police said they charged two of the youths with second-degree breach of peace. The other youth was not charged because his actions were determined to be defensive, police said.

The physical incident involved the threat of violence with a field hockey stick. One of the three boys had allegedly threatened to strike another with the stick. Police declined to provide details on the incident.

The extent of injuries received by those involved in the physical incident, if any, is unclear.

After processing, the two arrested youths were released from police custody on written promises to appear in court to answer the charges. Such court proceedings are held in closed session because the people charged are under age 18.
