In light of this morning’s bomb scare at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Newtown Recovery & Resiliency Team would like residents to know that its center will be fully staffed on Thursday, October 2.

In a message released to all residents Wednesday, October 1, the staff said that the scare called in to the elementary school “ended with the best possible outcome: all students and teachers are safe.

“Even so, it would be normal in the aftermath of the event for you and your children to experience emotional reactions and concerns. The Newtown Recovery & Resiliency Team will be fully staffed tomorrow with Counselors and Case Managers to provide support and resources.”

All are encouraged to call or stop in at 28 Trades Lane. The office will be open from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm, its regular hours. The center is usually open Monday through Friday.

Appointments will not be needed during regular hours, but after-hours appointments can be scheduled, according to the  RRT notice.

The team’s establishment was announced in August. It was established through a Department of Justice grant awarded to the Town of Newtown, so that a team of professionals could work in partnership with local recovery providers, community organizations and town employees in response to the continued needs of Newtown following 12/14.

The six-member team is led by community outreach liaison Melissa Glaser, LPC, who has a background in community behavioral health and clinical treatment. The other team members consist of project manager Margot Robins; clinical recovery leader Deb Del Vecchio-Scully, LPC; and three case managers — Catherine Gaida, LCSW; Eileen Rondeau, RN; and Suzy DeYoung, MsEd.

The team office is located in the former engineer’s house and security building at the main gate of Fairfield Hills, 28 Trades Lane. The group of recovery specialists is in place to build community relationships, provide resources, as well as facilitate and foster collaboration between service providers and funding sources while assisting in the ongoing assessment of community needs and strategically planning for present and future needs.

For additional information, Newtown Recovery & Resiliency Team can be reached by calling 203-270-4612.
