The United Way’s

Community Campaign

To the Editor:

With volunteers’ thoughts and prayers with the victims and families of the tragedy of September 11, United Way of Northern Fairfield County’s 62nd Campaign Kickoff and seventh annual Day of Caring took place on September 13. John Kline, chairman of the board of United Way and executive vice president of Union Savings Bank, told those assembled that this is the very thing we ought to be doing.

More than 500 volunteers took part in 30 projects at United Way partner agencies. Campaign chairman and president of Newtown Savings Bank, John Martocci, told the volunteers, “You are what is right in this community.” We would like to thank the hundreds of volunteers, sponsors, companies and agencies who took part. So many businesses donated food and supplies for the varied projects.

The sponsors for this year’s Day of Caring were: Boehringer Ingelheim, Cendant Mobility, GE Capital Commercial Equipment Financing, GE Capital Vendor Financial Services, Honeywell, Dow, Bailey Financial Services, Connex International, Integrity Staffing, Pitney Bowes, Savings Bank of Danbury, IBM, Newtown Savings Bank, Sealed Air, and Union Savings Bank.

We would also like to thank Charlene Giacin from GE Capital Commercial Equipment Financing and Deborah Pisacich from Integrity Staffing for co-chairing this wonderful and very successful event.

This year’s Community Campaign goal is $3,500,000. This is an extremely important time to support our community. The outpouring of donations for United Way’s September 11 Fund has been truly amazing and deeply appreciated. We ask everyone to remember their regular United Way gifts that help so many people in Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, Redding, and Ridgefield.

Thank you for your support.
