Scores From The Soccer Pitch

Results from recent youth girls’ and boys’ soccer action are as follows:

Girls

U8

Fighting Eagles 2, Mustangs 1: For the Mustangs, Veronica Vodola scored the goal. Victoria Keayes played outstanding on offense and notched the assist. Brianna Lovely controlled the defense. Angela Carriero made a great save in goal. The Fighting Eagles had great play from Ashleigh Thomas and Mary Sortino in the midfield. Maddie Sites shored up the defense and Simone Paradis and Katie Sailer hit the back of the net.

Fighting Irish 3, Wildcats 1: For the Fighting Irish, Jenna Lavelle (2) and Keeley Kortze both scored goals. Hailey Wilson had a strong game on the defensive side of the ball and Gabby Sadowski was a force to be reckoned with on offense. The Wildcats were led by the strong all-around play of Kaley Meisenheimer and Jacquelyn Matthews, the latter of whom netted the Wildcats’ lone goal. Defensively, the Wildcats were led by Colleen Phaneuf and Rylee Harrell, while Laura Augenbraun played well in goal.

U10

Team Three 5, Dynamite Desserts 3: Jackie Seras played a strong first half in goal, while Mallory Lobuglio (1) and Sydney Johnson (2) scored goals in the defeat.

Underdogs 1, Animals 0: For the Underdogs, nice passing between Lauren Cirone and Kiera Smith led to a Jordan Williams goal. The Underdog defense was phenomenal during the second half with Lauren Carrino as stopper and Melissa Shohet in goal. For the Animals, Allie Rezcek and Zoe Ivan controlled the ball. Janyce Toth made four saves in goal and Danni Otero was a force on defense.

U11

Danbury 6, Newtown Thunder 0: Lauren Beier and Meghan Doyle withstood 18 shots on goal. Solid defensive play by Nevan Gattey, Marissa Thill and Grace Sandercox and great hustle by teammates Makenna Cerney, Lucy Helgren and Madison Pirone stalled a relentless Danbury attack.

U13

Lightning 6, Glastonbury 0: The U13 girls dominated on both ends of the field in their first State Cup matchup. The game was characterized by consistent teamwork and communication among the Lightning players. Sarah Lynch had two goals and an assist, while Shelby Tolla, Amy Martinelli, Megan Weber and Raquel Crespo each scored one. Cassie Fischer was strong in the midfield the entire game. Kate Fallon and Jesse Sailer handled the nets for the shutout.

U14

Twisters 5, Cone Heads 2: For the Twisters, Alexis Tucker had two goals and Caitlin Filiato, Tonya Tucker and Kerry Scallon all scored. Persistent defense by Sinead Flanagan with strong midfield play by Rachael DiCristina, Chloe Blackman and Taylor Clomiro led the way. For the Cone Heads, the goals were scored by Megan Olszewski and Ashley Marks. Catherine McHugh and Grace Frost were a force as midfielders, supporting strong defense from Lindsay Fuori and Maren Brady. Aspen Kraushaar and Joanelle Tran consistently moved the ball forward into scoring position.

Team Two 2, Cone Heads 0: Hailey Conrad and Katie Clark scored in the win. Nicole Russo, Kate Laaksonen and Amanda Albanesi all played excellent games. Megan Milano was great in goal For the Cone Heads, Jacqueline Mooney and Grace Frost played an aggressive game on offense. The defense was supported with strong play by midfielders Hanna Delia and Catherine McHugh and defenders Danielle Agugliaro and Tessa Leon-Gambetta. Ashley Marks was outstanding in goal.

Earthquakes 1, Team One 0: Hannah Booth scored the game’s only goal. Briana Alves and Danielle Scarpa had strong games on defense. Haley McNulty had a solid all round game. Team One fought hard throughout the game and had long periods of possession with great chances on goal by Emma Deflumeri, Sara Lampel and Marina Renzi. Stephanie Haas and Katerina Ringes won possession of the ball in the middle of the field and threatened throughout.

Team One 5, Chatterboxes 5: Emily Grimes scoring 4 goals and added an assist and Chrissy Moore added a goal and an assist for the Chatterboxes. Margot Elkins and Hannah Grant both had assists as well. Kayla DiSibio played aggressively at midfield and strong defensive play by Renee Henriques and Morgan Goldstein helped the Chatterbox cause. For Team One, Marina Renzi scored three goals and Amanda Martinez and Carly Grossano scored one each. Emma Burns, Elizabeth Wojcik and Emma Delfumeri had outstanding performances in the second half on defense.

Chatterboxes 2, Team Two 1: For the Chatterboxes, goals were scored by Chrissy Moore and Sierra Mather, and Alex Dittrich and Meghan Grimes had assists. Strong midfield play was provided by Danielle Mola, Marissa Liberante and Jamie Duncan. For Team Two, the goal was scored by Geralyn Klein. Vicki Teixeira, Courtney Datin and Kate Laaksonen all played well on defense. Jessica Principi and Emily Clark both had great games in goal.

                        

Boys

U10

Newtown Predators 5, Team Six 4: For the Predators, Kevin Arthur scored 3 goals and Ethan Cox scored 2. Cox and Ryan Escoda each had three saves in goal. Christopher Russo had two shots on goal and an assist and Thomas Majilinger had four shots on goal and an assist. Auston Smith and David Usher were strong on defense and Chad Azzarito was solid up and down the field. Team Six goal scorers were Daniel Schreiber, Thomas Skreija and Jackson Dooley. Ian Klepacki, Wally Skreija and Ryan Patrick played strong defense.

Strikers 3, Team Three 0: RH Clark had two goals and Nathan Torre-Tasso had one. Tommy Phaneuf and Harry Eppers had strong all around games and Ryan Horn played great defense. Nathan Torre-Tasso and Robert DiSibio played in goal and combined for the shutout.

U11

West Hartford 2, Newtown Storm 0: The Storm traveled to West Hartford to play its first State Cup qualifying game. Newtown’s offense led by Hayes Kelchner, Shane Gattey and Mike Meyers, and Sam Grossano kept the opponents on their toes early and often with repeated drives to the West Hartford goal only to be denied. Jamie Cochrane, Forest Weatherby and Jack Riley played shut-down defense for the majority of the game against a very aggressive West Hartford offense. Robert Katrinak played great in goal, making some spectacular saves. Sebastian Forero, Richard Ciamarra and Austin Engler gave Newtown an offensive punch late in the game but were unable to capitalize against a good West Hartford defense.

Easton-Redding 3, Newtown Spartans 2: Easton-Redding took the early lead but Theodore Silverman put Newtown right back in the game with a goal in the first half. A trip in the box gave Newtown a penalty kick with less than a minute remaining in the half. Matt Guinee blasted the ball past the Easton-Redding goalie for the score and the lead. Easton-Redding tied it up and scored a final goal for the win with just minutes left in the game. Alex Hess was solid in net the first half and made some clutch passes to rally the offense in the second half. Ben “The Brick Wall” Tuffy played tough and made a great save on the goal line. Justin Gillespie, Matthew Tassiello and Tiernan Keane all had stellar games on offense.

U12

Newtown Strikers 2, Valley 0: Newtown won its first round Connecticut State Cup game. Josh Houle scored early in the first half. Cole Rogalin added the second goal off of an assist from Blake Jarvis. Newtown’s defense kept Valley scoreless behind the power of Michael O’Keefe and Alex Gerbo. Zachary Laros and Kevin Finnegan shared goalkeeping duties in the shutout.

Newtown Strikers 5, Weston 2: Newtown got off to a quick start against Weston as Cole Rogalin scored in the first few minutes of play. Josh Houle quickly hit the back of the net for Newtown’s second goal. Before the end of the first half, Rogalin and Houle each added another, and Blake Jarvis netted one. Scott Martin and John Carlson kept the offensive pressure on Weston throughout the game. Newtown kept Weston scoreless in the second half behind the defensive efforts of Sean Ferris and Paul O’Leary.

U14

The Vipers 4, Man U 2: For the Vipers, Tim Vander Have scored 2 goals and Sam Cox and Sinclair Sore had a goal apiece. Alister Sore was tough as the goalie, Matt Barr, Ryan Szalay and Nathan Williams were strong on defense. Nick Genovese had two assists. Brandon Unger was a rock on defense and Tim Clay was the anchor of the team. Though Man U lost, the team put up a valiant fight with Matthew Wood scoring in the first half and Miguel Rodriguez, who made several nice plays, scoring a goal in the second half. Omar Rodriguez stood out with solid defense. 

Hot Pockets 4, Roma 0: Joseph Anastasi did a great job as goalie for Roma with Dillon and Lukas Palumbo giving him excellent support on defense. Daniel Colucci also played a strong offensive game for Roma. Justin Adsitt-Weiner, Thomas Gavel and Tim Kelly each scored for the Hot Pockets. Michael Unschuld was excellent at midfield, and Brandon Rodriguez played great on defense.    

Barca 5, AC Falcon 5: For AC Falcon, Chris Rovelli scored three goals and Dylan Solano and Mark Urso had one each. Kyle Watkins and Zachary Weiland were strong in goal. Barca was led by Miguel Rodrigues who scored four goals and Will Robert who had 1. Jeroen Schickendantz and Omar Rodrigues were outstanding on defense.

Vipers 2, Team Sox 1: Team Six jumped out to a quick lead as Gabe Barrett scored a goal with an assist from Michael Biannodi. The Vipers came back and Tim Vander Have scored a goal with an assist from Nick Genovese. Another goal was scored by Sinclair Sore to make it 2-1 Vipers. The Viper goalkeepers, Alister Sore, Patrick Olah and Matt Barra, blocked hard shots on goal. Sam Cox, Tim Vander Have and Nick Genovese dominated the midfield and forward positions. Ryan Szalay’s defensive play stopped the attackers from getting to the goal. Nathan Williams pressed the midfield into the defensive territory. Christian Morlock excelled on defense and played hard at midfield.
