Riverside Burglary

Police report that a house in the vicinity of Oak Trail/Laurel Trail in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook was burglarized sometime on September 28, or during the first half of September 29.

According to police, a white male who has a scruffy beard drove to the residence in a white work van and then allegedly forced his way into the house.

The male turned off the house’s main electrical circuit breaker and went into the basement, learning that there was no copper present in the building, police said. Thieves steal copper piping for its scrap value.

However, the intruder stole several power tools. Police are investigating the burglary/larceny and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Playground Vandalism

Police report a case of second-degree criminal mischief at the town’s new playground at Dickinson Park, off Elm Drive.

Police said that sometime between 11 pm on Thursday, September 18, and 8 am on Friday, September 19, an unknown person tore off four of the six adhesive warning signs which were positioned on the “zip line” playground equipment.

The person then tore up the signs, crumpled them, and threw them onto the ground, police said.

Those signs had been placed on the zip line on the morning of September 18, police said. The signs concern the minimum age for use of the zip line. Police said the incident caused about $300 worth of property damage.

Church Hill Collision

Motorist Frank Milano, 40, of 4 Hoseye Coach Road was driving a 2014 BMW X-5 SUV eastward on Church Hill Road at about 3:14 pm on September 18, as motorist Corinne Muckell, 58, of Bethel was driving a 2009 Honda Civic sedan westward there, police said.

The BMW then attempted to make a left turn into the driveway at 25 Church Hill Road, resulting in the BMW and the Honda colliding, police report.

There were no injuries. Milano received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, according to police.

Botsford Hill Road

Police said a two-vehicle accident occurred on the section of Botsford Hill Road between its intersections with Little Brook Lane and Button Shop Road at about 6:51 pm on September 14.

Northbound motorist Brian Kerrigan, 26, of Westport was driving a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward and was attempting to make a right turn to enter a driveway at 54 Botsford Hill Road, when northbound motorist Jermaine Pitter, 25, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Ford Focus hatchback, attempted to pass the Volkswagen on the right, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Pitter received an infraction for illegal passing on the right and for driving without a license, police said.

South Main Violations

At about 5:30 pm on September 26, police stopped motorist Cianna Glaze, 23, of Bridgeport to investigate near 123 South Main Street.

Police said they charged Glaze with failure to display a marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving under suspension.

After processing, police released Glaze on $500 nonsurety bail for an October 9 court appearance.

Wasserman Way

At about 7:48 pm on September 20, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of the Exit 11 off-ramp for Interstate 84 and Wasserman Way, according to police.

In that incident, motorist Emanuel Pavone, 56, of 168 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 1993 Ford ranger pickup truck, made a left turn from the end of the off-ramp onto westbound Wasserman Way, police said. In making that turn, Pavone violated a red traffic signal at the intersection, police report.

At that time, motorist Madeline Sebastian, 40, of Harford was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan westward on Wasserman Way, according to police.

The turning Ford struck the Honda, police report. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pavone for a traffic signal violation.

Sedan Vs Truck

Two-vehicles collided on westbound Church Hill Road, near the eastbound ramps for Exit 10 of Interstate 84 at about 4:40 pm on September 26.

In that incident, motorist Emma Burns, 17, of 8 Wendover Road, who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze sedan, struck the rear end of a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Daniel Holmes, 45, of 6 Glen Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Burns was verbally warned for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

SUV Vs Van

At about 5:10 pm on September 26, motorist James Labati, 52, of 75 Lakeview Terrace was driving a 2013 Ford Econoline van eastward on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Edmond Road, and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the van was struck from behind by motorist Bryan Harvey, 31, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Nissan Murano SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Harvey for following too closely.

Blue Colony

Motorist Dakota Daab, 20, of Danbury was driving a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck westward on Church Hill Road, as motorist Amit Patel, 34, of Bethel was driving a 2014 Subaru Legacy sedan eastward there at about 4:40 pm on September 26, police report.

The GMC then attempted to make a left turn to enter the driveway of the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road, police added.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Daab for failure to grant the right of way.

Ox Hill Road

A one-vehicle accident occurred on Ox Hill Road about 10:47 pm on September 26. Ox Hill Road is a dirt road that connects Hundred Acres Road to Mt Nebo Road.

Police report that motorist Malcolm Dance, 17, of 188 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck westward near 10 Ox Hill Road, when a deer ran onto the road. To avoid a collision, Dance braked and swerved to the left, but the truck went off the left road shoulder, hit a rock and then landed in a ditch, police said.

Dance was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Berkshire Road

Police report that motorist Bruce Jaeger, 56, of 242 Berkshire Road was driving a 2009 Honda Element SUV in the driveway at that address at about 4:41 pm on September 22, when he backed into a parked unoccupied 2014 Honda Civic sedan. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

SUV Struck

Police report that a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV occupied by a Danbury man was parked alongside Sugar Street, near the Ferris Acres Creamery at 144 Sugar Street, at about 9:06 pm on September 27, when the SUV was struck by a “dark-colored” vehicle driving through the area, which did not stop after the impact. The man in the SUV was not injured. Police are investigating.

Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle accident occurred at the railroad grade crossing near 26 Hawleyville Road at about 1:34 pm on September 23.

Police said that northbound motorist Carlens Telemarque, 24, of Beacon Falls, who was driving a 2012 Kia Sedona minivan designated for student transport, stopped, as required by law, at the grade crossing, after which motorist Justin Kaiser, 16, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2004 Volvo XC-90 SUV, stopped behind the Kia.

Motorist Jon Gallup, 54, of Stamford, who was driving a 2004 Dodge Intrepid sedan, then struck the Volvo’s rear end, pushing the Volvo into the rear end of the Kia, police said.

No train was involved in the incident, police said.

Kaiser was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said.

Hawleyville volunteer firefighters responded to clean up an automotive fluids spill. Gallup received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said. 

I-84 Accident

At about 6:05 am on September 25, trucker David Guilbe, 30, of East Windsor, who was driving a 2014 International tractor-trailer truck in the left lane of three lanes on westbound Interstate 84, about 3,000 feet east of Exit 11, merged into the center lane and struck motorist Brian Pannell, 21, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima sedan, state police said.

There were no injuries. Guilbe received a written warning for making an unsafe lane change, according to state police.

Black Object

While traveling on eastbound Interstate 84 at the Tunnel Road overpass at about 8:26 am on September 22, motorist Megan Crouch, 24, of Monroe, who was driving a 2012 Ford Focus, saw a black object strike her windshield, shattering it, state police said. The origin of the object is unclear, state police said. Crouch was not injured.

Chevy Hits Guardrail

Motorist Joseph Richmond, 28, of Waterbury was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier eastward on Interstate 84, about 3,500 feet west of Exit 10, at about 5 am on September 22, when he lost control of the auto and it went into a spin, striking the median guardrail, state police report.

Richmond was not injured. Richmond received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to maintain the travel lane, state police said.

Following Too Closely

State police report that at about 3:14 pm on September 22, motorist Nancy Fraczek, 61, of 3 Old Town Road, who was driving a 2015 Volvo XC-60, stopped at a red traffic signal at the end of the Exit 11 off-ramp for Interstate 84, after which motorist Kara Gerace, 43, of 23 Hall Lane, who was driving a 2005 Honda Odyssey, stopped behind the Volvo.

Gerace’s foot slipped off the Honda’s brake pedal and the Honda then moved forward and struck the rear end of the Volvo, according to state police.

There were no injuries. Gerace received a written warning for following too closely, state police said.

Keys Found

On the morning of September 26, police received a set of keys that was found at the intersection of Bennetts Bridge Road and Osborn Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

The owner may claim the keys at the police station at 3 Main Street, where they are being held for safekeeping.

Bracelet Found

On the afternoon of September 27, a person turned over to police for safekeeping a bracelet that was found at the gazebo at The Pleasance, a park at 1 Main Street.

The owner may claim the bracelet at the police station at 3 Main Street.
