Pumpkin Patch Train Rides

DANBURY — It’s the Fall harvest season and train enthusiasts of all ages are invited to welcome the cooler weather with a short ride on a vintage train to the Danbury Railway Museum’s Pumpkin Patch.

This annual family event will take place on three weekends — October 11-12, 18-19, and 25-26 — Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays from noon to 5 pm. Trains depart hourly beginning 30 minutes after opening each day.

The Pumpkin Patch Train will roll through the historic railyard. A 1920s passenger coach, pulled by a vintage locomotive or in a restored 1953 Rail Diesel Car (RDC) will take visitors to the special pumpkin patch where each child will receive a free pumpkin.

A ride on the only operating turntable in Connecticut will also be a special treat.

Inside the museum — a fully restored 100-year old train station — exhibits, artifacts and multiple operating model train layouts will be open for education and entertainment.  Kids can also enjoy the “coloring station,” temporary tattoos, cider and cookies, the operating “garden” railroad outside in the yard, and more.

Admission is $8. Children under 2 are admitted for free.

There is a fully-stocked gift shop on the premises.  No reservations are required; the event will be held rain or shine.

Danbury Railway Museum is a non-profit organization, staffed solely by volunteers, and is dedicated to the preservation of, and education about, railroad history.  The museum is located in the restored 1903 Danbury Station and rail yard at 120 White Street, and has many artifacts of area railroading on display, including over 70 vintage railroad cars and locomotives.

For further information, visit danbury.org/drm, send email to info@DanburyRail.org, or call the museum at 778-8337.
