This month’s meeting of the Genealogy Club of Newtown will be Wednesday, October 9, at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

The guest speaker will be Penny Hartzell. Ms Hartzell, of Woodbury, is a member of the club who has spoken previously on several subjects. Her topic this month will be the latest changes to genealogy websites Ancestry and Family Search, and other sites that aid in research.

Attendees will learn how to work within the new changes, and how they will benefit research into past history.

The meeting will start at 7 pm, but a new feature has been added to the club’s meetings. There will be a Help Desk at 6:30, one half hour before the meeting, for those who would like individual help with problems in their research.

A $3 donation is requested from those attending the program. Refreshments will be served.

“There is nothing more exciting and rewarding than doing your family genealogy,” said Toni McKeen, chair The Genealogy Club of Newtown. “While the TV program [Who Do You Think You Are?] traces the stories of famous personalities, our family histories are just as interesting and even more important for us to know.

“I invite you to come and hear interesting speakers who can offer clues to getting you started or helping you with your ongoing research,” she continued. “As an added benefit to our members … [the] Help Desk one half hour before the meetings [will] help in pointing you in the right direction by suggesting websites to help you with your research, or to help break down some of your ‘stone walls.’”

For those interested in becoming a member of the club, membership dues are $20 for an individual membership, and $30 for a family membership.
