To the Editor:

This past year has been most significant for the volunteer members of Newtown Hook & Ladder Co. #1. Land was purchased, building committees were formed, architectural plans were approved, and ground was broken as construction began for the new firehouse. The new station located at 12 Church Hill Road has been a work in progress and we are so pleased to be finally operating out of the new headquarters. The official ribbon cutting ceremony and building dedication was held on September 2.

We have so many people to thank who have helped us along the way, too many to mention here. Please feel free to stop by and tour our new home, visit the historical museum, and view the recognition we offer our supporters throughout the building.

Last weekend we hosted our 7th annual Firehouse Ride out of our own facility. While this brought on new expenses and much more work and preparation, we are thrilled to say the event was a huge success thanks mostly in part to our generous sponsors: Smokey Mountain Chew, The Gopher Guys, the Pendergast Family, JP Maguire, the Law Offices of James O. Gaston, the Borough of Newtown, and Haynes Materials. The sunny skies and excited riders who continually support this cause enjoyed a scenic fall escorted ride before congregating back at headquarters for a pig roast BBQ, live music by Midnight Rodeo, a bouncy house, and raffles. We couldn't have asked for a better day, or a better way to spend an afternoon with our friends and family within our community. Thank you to all those who participated.
