The dispatchers at the Newtown Emergency Communications Center, at 191 South Main Street, report the following fire calls and the responders:

Wednesday, September 22: 12:42 pm, motor vehicle accident (MVA) with injury, South Main Street, Botsford responded; 8:20 pm, fire alarm — residential, Yogananda Street, Sandy Hook responded.

Thursday, September 23: 12:34 am, fire alarm — residential, Russett Road, Sandy Hook responded; 10:12 am, fire alarm — commercial, Church Hill Road, Hook & Ladder and Sandy Hook responded; 11:32 am, natural gas leak, Misty Vale Road, Sandy Hook and Botsford responded; 9:54 pm, wires burning/arcing, Saw Mill Road, Hawleyville responded.

Friday, September 24: 5:25 am, MVA with injury, South Main Street, Hook & Ladder responded; 8:32 am, wires burning/arcing, Scenic View Drive, Hook & Ladder responded; 10:50 am, medical assist, Narragansett Trail, Sandy Hook responded; 4:06 pm, structure fire — residential, Blackman Road, Hook & Ladder, Botsford, Dodgingtown, Hawleyville, and Sandy Hook responded; 5:29 pm, smoke/odor investigation, South Main Street, Botsford responded; 5:33 pm, fire alarm — commercial, Main Street, Hook & Ladder, Botsford, and Sandy Hook responded.

Tuesday, September 28: 5:22 am, fire alarm — commercial, Saw Mill Road, Hawleyville responded; 7:55 am, MVA with injury, Main Street/Church Hill Road, Hook & Ladder responded; 4:20 pm, MVA with injury, Huntingtown Road, Botsford and Hook & Ladder responded; 7:20 pm, gasoline spill, Ox Hill Road, Dodgingtown responded; 9:50 pm, fire alarm — commercial, South Main Street, Botsford responded.

Wednesday, September 29: 7:06 am, fire alarm — residential, Kent Road, Hook & Ladder and Hawleyville responded.

A quick response by Newtown Hook & Ladder, and equally speedy hose work by volunteer firefighters Sean Reilly and Tom Harrigan, helped avert spreading from a fierce barn fire on the property of 2 Blackman Road late in the afternoon of September 24. All five of Newtown’s volunteer companies responded, along with Newtown Volunteer Ambulance for support; however, no injuries or further damage resulted.
