Hawk Spikers Earn Wins

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team earned its sixth and seventh wins with 3-0 triumphs over Brookfield on September 28 and Oxford on Monday, October 1.

In the home match against Brookfield, the Nighthawks won by scores of 25-18, 25-10, and 25-23. Cassie Ekstrom had nine digs and three service aces, Mylis Post had six aces and four kills, and Caroline Kelly had six digs and five kills.

Newtown beat host Oxford 25-15, 25-21, and 25-13. Kyle Dandrea had six kills and five aces to go along with 11 assists; Post added seven aces; Courtney Escoda had 12 digs; Sam Steimle had three blocks, eight kills, and two aces; Lauren Frazzetta had four aces, four kills, and three digs; and Meghan Logan tallied 12 assists.

The Nighthawks were scheduled to host Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport on Wednesday (after The Bee sports section went to press) and will host Woodstock Academy on Friday, October 5 at 5:30 pm.
