Gather Information Before Voting

To the Editor:

As this strange voting cycle gets underway, I urge Newtown voters to give consideration to the below.

I know many of our state elected officials are apprehensive about being swept along with presidential preferences without fair consideration of their individual qualifications and track records for Newtown. I would therefore urge those voting, and particularly those who do not often vote for non-gubenatorial state candidates, to gather information about these individuals before casting votes for these state offices. Specifically, the Republican incumbents who represent all or part of Newtown, Senator Tony Hwang, and Representatives Bolinsky and Sredzinski, do a fantastic job for us in Hartford. From before Sandy Hook to the present, these incumbents advocate and vote strongly for positions favoring Newtown. And even though they’re in the minority party at the Capitol, their ability to advocate as a block for Newtown more than offsets that circumstance. To that end, also returning to office former Representative Dan Carter, who would represent a sliver of Newtown along with Bethel, would unite the delegation again and add power to its voice. Make no mistake, these fine gentlemen are all solid Republicans, but each has and will vote their consciences on issues and not follow party lines blindly.
