Vote For Democrats

To the Editor:

Newtown has a municipal election in five weeks. The last municipal election had a low turnout.

Please vote, to make sure you have a say in how our town is run. And if you want Newtown’s government to focus on the issues affecting Newtowners, vote for Democrats.

Unfortunately, national political obsessions have intruded into Newtown politics, so there’s a lot at stake in this election. There are issues that are really important for our future, but these culture wars distract our elected officials from working for Newtown.

What kind of town do we want?

Do we want our infrastructure to be funded, so we don’t have to pay more over the long run to fix neglected streets, buildings and bridges?

Do we want excellent schools, because our children are our future, and the value of our homes depends on good schools?

Do we want everyone in Newtown to feel safe and welcome here, and do we want to support our police and first responders?

Do we want to preserve Newtown’s heritage, while allowing smart, thoughtful development to boost our tax base, so we can all afford to live here and stay here throughout our lives?

Dan Cruson, Michelle Ku, and the terrific slate of Democrats will not let national politics and culture wars distract them from these goals; they will focus on making sure Newtown is a thriving community. It doesn’t matter what political party you follow; Dan, Michelle and the Democrats will listen to you, and will be working for you.

They will give you a government that’s transparent, so you’ll know about anything that might affect your taxes or your safety. They will give you a government that will work for Newtown.

Please vote for the Democrats on November 7. Thank you.

Everyone should still smart from the shift in the property taxes (where was the transparency?) and make their decision. And don’t forget the ‘Freedom of Speech’ mob at the BoE (where Cruson sat silently). As the Talking Heads said, ‘Same as it ever was.’ 9% turnout is my guesstimate.
